But they could be knocked out if they lose to the free-scoring Austrians and Napoli beat Group E whipping boys Genk.

Klopp said: “Salzburg have to win against us. It’s possible because it’s football, I like that. Everyone knows it is a final.

“We are not a typical Champions League winner or finalist of two years before.

“We are still ambitious like crazy. We will go for everything, we will run for our lives.

“It’s not that we come here and think that we have to dominate Salzburg. We will fight in each challenge, 100 per cent.”

Liverpool, who beat Salzburg 4-3 at Anfield, are in the middle of a nightmare run of fixtures.

Klopp added: “We are in the most intense period of our lives and we will try to enjoy it.

“It is difficult, no doubt about that.”

The German boss became slightly stroppy when asked how he would cope with a dip in form due to the number of games.

Liverpool are at home to Watford on Saturday.

While next Tuesday they will field a young side in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at Aston Villa while the seniors will be in Qatar for the Fifa Club World Cup.

Klopp said: “No, I don’t expect drops and if they happen I will prepare the solution.

“Yes, it is difficult but there is a job to do. We don’t ask for excuses because we know our schedule.

“We don’t expect drops, we don’t accept drops, not just me but the boys as well.

“We ask ourselves for the highest concentration. Then we will see what we get for it.”

Hotshot Sadio Mane returns to the club where he made his name before joining Southampton for £11.8million in 2014.

Skipper Jordan Henderson said: “Sadio has been outstanding for a long period of time.”
