Klopp claimed it was clear how keen Mourinho was to come back to England while adding his shock at Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking.
The German chuckled as he said: “Welcome back, Jose. It’s nice to have him back.
“He was desperate, you can see that from the time he was not in.
“But on the other side it shows how quick things change with Mauricio. Five months ago we played in the Champions League final, now he is on holiday.
“He can enjoy it now. He did a brilliant job at Tottenham and was an outstanding coach.
“I really enjoyed the games we played against each other.
“When I heard it first I could not really believe it. But that’s how it is.
“It will not last long and then he will be back.”
Meanwhile, after sealing his return to the Premier League with Spurs, Mourinho revealed 700 people text him congratulations, including his old Manchester United boss Ed Woodward.
Mourinho said it was “curious” to see so many United officials showing him “respect” now after the manner of his dismissal.
The Special One will now have to work under Daniel Levy – a fact that doesn’t worry him one jot.
Mourinho revealed: “I think we will get on well. He explained to me the vision for the club and I embraced that.
“It was one of the most important reasons I accepted. So when I did that, it’s a very good start.”
