DAVID BECKHAM’S Inter Miami are stepping up preparations for their debut MLS season by officially appointing Diego Alonso as their first ever manager.
The 44-year-old comes with an impressive pedigree – as the only boss to winthe CONCACAF Champions League with two different clubs.

Alonso won the prestigious trophy with Mexican side Pachuca in 2017, before doing the same again with Monterrey earlier this year.
Following the announcement, Alonso wrote on his Twitter account: “Thank you very much for the welcome!!! I’m very excited and proud to be part of @InterMiamiCF”.
On the appointment, Inter Miami sporting director Paul McDonough said: “In Diego we found a manager that fits our culture and has a strong desire to build a winning club for our fans.
“He brings a lot of experience and championship-winning mentality as we begin our drive to be among the best clubs in the Americas.
“We have big aspirations for our club and believe Diego has the right drive, passion and leadership to accomplish our goals.”
Despite being a fairly young manager, this is already Alonso’s seventh job in management, as the Uruguayan has worked his way up.
He started with Montevideo-based Bella Vista – also managing Guarani, Penarol and Olimpia – before joining Pachuca in 2014.
Prior to their returns to the Premier League, Inter Miami had been linked with David Moyes and Carlo Ancelotti.
But instead, Becks and other club officials have opted for a manager with experience of North American football.

Inter Miami will finally get their maiden MLS campaign underway in March with a trip to Bob Bradley’s Los Angeles FC.
And their first home game takes place on March 14 against LA Galaxy.
The match will take place in Fort Lauderdale, however, with the state-of-the-art Miami Freedom Park not expected to be ready until the 2022 season.
