MANCHESTER UNITED will hope to end the year with a bang when they travel to Burnley just 48 hours after brushing aside Newcastle.
The Red Devils can make it back-to-back wins on Saturday after their convincing 4-1 victory over the Toon on Boxing Day.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has one fresh injury concern for the trip with midfielder Scott McTominay sidelined.
The Norwegian confirmed that the Scottish midfielder suffered knee ligament damage against Newcastle and was later seen leaving Old Trafford on crutches.
McTominay arrived at Carrington training complex today looking miserable ahead of further scans that will determine the severity of his injury.
His absence means Paul Pogba is expected to make his first league start since September.
The Frenchman has struggled with injuries and illness but was handed 45 minutes against Steve Bruce’s side.
Despite the congested fixture list Solskjaer hinted that he is likely to keep a similar starting XI to help build momentum.
He said: “I think we are in the best position to perform on Saturday.
“The game against Newcastle was over after 45 minutes.
“We are young. We have a great chance against Burnley to perform at the best level.
“When you are 23, which is the average age of the outfield starting players against Newcastle, that will make it easier for us to recover than Burnley I think.
“They played until the end against Everton. We were done after 45 minutes and used the second half as recovery.”
That could mean United’s in-form attacking trio of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood may start, with Daniel James left on the bench.
Teenage sensation Greenwood is in fine form with four goals in his last five appearances.
Andreas Pereira could occupy the role behind the forwards although both James and Juan Mata are options in that position.
Solskjaer will be without defenders Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who are all sidelined with injury.
