Gutted Spurs fans label Pochettino axing ‘biggest mistake ever’ and wonder if Mourinho will succeed him

MAURICIO POCHETTINO’S shock sacking has been labelled the “biggest mistake” Spurs have ever made as “gutted” fans stormed onto social media to complain over the “awful” and “disgraceful” decision.

Argentinian Pochettino exited on Tuesday night with Tottenham only 14th in the Premier League after he guided them to the Champions League final in May at the height of his five-year reign.

Some supporters speculated ex-Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho would succeed Poch.

And a few questioned why, if Spurs were insistent on giving Poch the push, they waited until near the end of the international break.

BBC pundit and Tottenham legend Gary Lineker also blasted his old club.

The former England striker tweeted: “He helped the club to punch massively above their weight for years. Good luck with finding a better replacement….ain’t gonna happen.”

‘WHY TODAY?’

Several fans pointed out that Pochettino failed to end Spurs’ wait since 1984 to win another major trophy.

One posted: “Poch took the best ever Spurs side to zero trophies? Hate to see it.”

But another suggested: “This could be the biggest mistake the club has made.”

And this tweet summed up bemusement at the timing of Pochettino’s departure: “Why today. why not do it at the start of the international break so they could have a chance of getting someone in for the next match ffs.”

But one supporter joked Tottenham should look down Under for Poch’s replacement.

He said: “Harry Redknapp fresh from the jungle ready to take charge. Alwite Tweakle.”
