CHELSEA’S forgotten man Marco van Ginkel is set to finally return to action after 18 months out injured.
The Dutch international had spent two-and-a-half years on loan at PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie.
Van Ginkel has twice suffered from ACL injuries… but is finally on the mend
The attacking midfielder impressed under Philip Cocu, scoring 31 goals in 64 appearances – as well as earning the captain’s armband.
His last appearance, however, came in a 0-0 draw with Groningen on May 6 2018, as he skippered PSV to the title.
Disaster struck soon after, when he was forced to have knee surgery after a horror ACL injury.
This lead to the eight cap ace having to spend the whole of last season on the sidelines as he sought to recover from the injury.
It also scuppered what was a likely return to PSV.
Van Ginkel’s road to recovery has included a number of setbacks.
He wrote on his Instagram account: “After more than a year, finally back on the pitch.
“For most players it is normal to be training outside, but I had some setbacks during my recovery which was really frustrating.
“I am working hard every day, not there yet but it is getting closer now.”
Van Ginkel’s career is now at a crossroads, with his Chelsea contract set to finally come to an end in the summer.
The 26-year-old joined the Blues from Vitesse in 2013, but has made only four first-team appearances for them to date.

The last of these came in a League Cup tie against Swindon Town in September 2013 under Jose Mourinho.
Although his first ACL injury cruelly saw him fall out of the first-team picture at Stamford Bridge.
Loan spells at AC Milan and Stoke City followed, before he returned to his native Holland for his first spell at PSV in January 2016.
