Chelsea player ratings: Christian Pulisic runs the show and Willian is lively in win over Aston Villa

CHELSEA held their nerve against Aston Villa at home to bounce back from consecutive league defeats.

It was an unhappy return to Stamford Bridge for Blues legend John Terry as goals from academy products Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount sealed three points for Frank Lampard’s men.

Again it was a story of quality going forward but shaky moments at the back for Chelsea.

Here is how Martin Lipton rated the Blues performers.

Kepa Arrizabalaga – 7

Not much he could do about the Trezeguet fluke. And not much else he had to do.

Reece James – 7

Lovely controlled ball in for Abraham’s opener and always looking to get forward. Good engine on him.

Andreas Christensen – 7

Must have expected a tougher night but ended up spending most of it on easy street.

Kurt Zouma – 6

Again had it very comfortable at the back as Villa struggled to offer any real threat.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 6

The other returning skipper had plenty of space to get forward but did not really utilise it too well.

N’Golo Kante – 7

Back in that central role in the absence of Jorginho. Let’s be honest, he can play anywhere.

Mateo Kovacic – 6

There’s a player there. But you don’t always see too much of him. Tonight was one of those nights.

Mason Mount – 7

Just when you thought he was in danger of being eclipsed by Grealish, he scored an absolute belter.

Willian – 8

The out-ball on the right and a constant threat and danger. Might want an extra few bob on that proposed new contract.

Christian Pulisic – 9

Fabulous early run hinted at more to come and scared Villa rigid whenever he had the ball at his feat.

Tammy Abraham – 7

Showed for the ball throughout and found space to head home. Loves responsibility of leading the Chelsea line.
