Chelsea boss Lampard hopes to make Chilwell first signing if transfer ban lifted but Leicester desperate to keep him

FRANK LAMPARD reportedly wants to make Leicester City star Ben Chilwell his first signing if Chelsea’s transfer ban is lifted next month.

The Standard claims the left-back could be heading to Stamford Bridge this winter.

But there is also fierce interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.

Chilwell, 21, has established himself as one of the top defenders around after playing in all 38 of Leicester’s league matches last season.

He’s a vital cog in Brendan Rodgers’ slick machine, with Leicester sitting SECOND in the table with eight wins from 12 games.

And Chilwell has also become England’s first choice left-back, clocking up 11 appearances since his Three Lions debut in September 2018.

It’s believed Lampard – and Blues supporters – would love to bring the youngster to Stamford Bridge, with the Chelsea boss building an exciting team around club-grown stars including Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The Blues are currently appealing their two-window transfer ban at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and will discover their fate in mid-December.

Should the ban be lifted, Lampard will be able to move for new players in January.

However, he will have to move swiftly for Chilwell, with United and City also extremely interested in securing his coveted signature.

There could be a number of exits at Stamford Bridge this winter as well, with Olivier Giroud wanted by Inter Milan.
