CARLO ANCELOTTI could be Everton’s new manager by the weekend.

The legendary Italian would become the super boss Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri craves.

Despite Moshiri agreeing a £450million spending spree, Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce and Marco Silva all failed to add any glitter to Goodison. But Ancelotti, who held further talks with the club yesterday, has the golden touch and star quality Moshiri has been looking for since taking over in March 2016.

Ancelotti, 60, is a three-time Champions League winner — twice with AC Milan and once at Real Madrid — and did the Premier League and FA Cup Double with Chelsea.

He was axed by Napoli seven days ago on the back of dressing-room discontent, despite guiding them to the Champions League last 16.

Ancelotti is also the choice of director of football, Marcel Brands, who sees his reputation as something that will attract better quality players.

Brands also appears to have won a boardroom war after blocking chairman Bill Kenwright’s plan to bring back ex-boss David Moyes and KO’ing moves for Mark Hughes and Vitor Pereira.

An Everton statement last night said: “The board has held meetings with a number of candidates.

“Thus far no contract offer has been made and no candidate has chosen to withdraw from the process.”

Duncan Ferguson remains in charge for tomorrow’s Carabao Cup quarter-final home clash with Leicester.
