Bernd Leno trolled by fans as Arsenal keeper makes howler for Chelsea equaliser as Gunners woes continue under Arteta

ARSENAL goalkeeper Bernd Leno’s horrendous error cost the Gunners a first win under new boss Mikel Arteta.

The German completely misjudged Mason Mount’s 83rd minute free-kick, punching thin air and leaving Jorginho with the simplest of finishes to equalise.

Arsenal had lead for most of the match through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s early header.

But the flapping Leno’s blunder gifted the Blues a way back into the match.

And Tammy Abraham was on hand to punish Arteta’s side even further just a few minutes later, when he slotted the winner past the helpless Leno to compound the Gunners’ misery.

The result means that Arsenal sit just six points above the relegation zone going into the new year.

And some fans were brutal with the unfortunate Arsenal stopper.

One wrote: “Leno is a low budget De Gea”.

While another chipped in: “Guendouzi. No words needed. Arteta. Needs to heavily learn from his idiocy today. Leno, an absolute disasterclass.”

And another joked: “Bernd Leno. My boy. What was that? How did you get possessed by the spirit of Almunia in a time like that?”

The error now means that since the start of last season, Leno has made more mistakes leading to goals than any other goalkeeper in the Premier League.

His tally of seven takes him above the likes of fellow blunderers David de Gea and Hugo Lloris.

After the game, Arteta had his say on his stopper’s error.

He said: “He will be down and when an error costs points it’s harder. We have to respect what he’s done at the club and get him back on board.”

Arsenal host Manchester United on Wednesday night – with their new boss looking for his first victory as a manager at the third attempt.
