Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta ‘in talks’ to join Argentinian side Estudiantes from Japanese club Vissel Kobe


ANDRES INIESTA is reportedly ‘in talks to join’ Argentinian side Estudiantes which would see him link up with former Barcelona team-mates Gabriel Milito and Javier Mascherano.

The 35-year-old – currently plying his trade in Japan for Vissel Kobe – is tied down at the club until 2021.

But according to Sport, the World Cup winner could be set to make the move to South America.

In the report they quote TNT Sports journalist Nicolas Latini who states that the Estudiantes board are keen to sign Iniesta.

His former Barca team-mate Mascherano has agreed a deal to join the club in January from Chinese outfit Hebei China Fortune.

Should Iniesta also swap Asia for Argentina, he would play under Milito – with the former defender the current boss of Estudiantes.

The trio spent a single season playing together at the Nou Camp, where they won the La Liga title and the Champions League in 2011.

Since leaving the Blaugrana in 2018, Iniesta has enjoyed two seasons with Vissel Kobe.

He has chipped in with ten goals in 39 games in all competitions, but is yet to win a trophy with the Cows.

Kobe finished in eighth place in the recent season, and Estudiantes are faring even worse in their campaign.

They sit in 13th spot after 16 matches played, though the club are incredibly just six points behind leaders Argentinos Juniors.
