Bale’s Real Madrid future ‘uncertain’ as club fear hard Brexit will rule him ineligible

GARETH BALE’S Real Madrid future could be affected if the UK leaves the European with a hard Brexit.

Boris Johnson’s overwhelming majority in the recent election gives him a strong mandate to fulfil his promise of getting the withdrawal over the line next month.

And Spanish outlet AS reports that Bale faces an “uncertain” future if an agreement is not struck between the government and European Union.

La Liga clubs are only allowed to register three non-EU players in their squad, with Eder Militao, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo needing the spots.

And if Welshman Bale were to lose his status, it could cause issues for Zinedine Zidane.

Fortunately, the Spanish government has begun to put safeguards in place to try and protect business.

A law passed in March stated that UK nationals “permanently exercising in Spain a profession or professional activity” requiring them to reside in the country can continue to do so.

And people who had lived in Spain for five years before Brexit can also apply for long-term citizenship, with Bale meeting this criteria after his 2014 move.

The former Tottenham star has been linked with an exit regardless of the political situation after holding up a flag poking fun at the Spanish club.

Bale has been booed by fans since the international break but continues to be professional in spite of the criticism.

Real have three games left before the winter break, including Wednesday’s El Clasico clash at Barcelona.
