Atletico fans ordered to stop insulting players after chanting ‘Griezmann die!’ during Barcelona clash

A SECTION of Atletico Madrid fans have been ordered to stop chanting abuse at players.

The plea comes after a portion of Atleti fans could be heard shouting “Griezmann die” at their former star.

The taunts came as the Frenchman returned to the Wanda Metropolitano for the first time since his acrimonious summer exit.

And Cadena Ser claim that the club have been told in no uncertain terms to make the abuse stop.

Unfortunately for the Atleti boo-boys, however, it would be Griezmann who had the last laugh.

After Diego Simeone’s side had been denied by a pair of outstanding saves from Marc-Andre ter Stegan.

Lionel Messi curled home a trademark finish from the edge of the penalty area with just four minutes remaining.

And Barca held out for a priceless 1-0 victory.

Despite manager Ernesto Valverde being under pressure, the win lifted his team back to the top of La Liga.

An Atletico fan on social media was at pains to stress that not all of the club’s fans share the negative attitude towards Griezmann.

They posted: “Mate, don’t give any credibility to the actions of a few idiots within Frente Atletico.

“I and nearly every Colchonero I’ve spoken too still likes Griezmann and is very grateful for everything he gave us. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that this is anything more than a loud minority”.

As well as having to put up with abuse from his former fans, the 28-year-old has reportedly had difficulty settling in with his new team-mates at the Camp Nou.

Speculation has mounted that he is not close with his star strike partner Lionel Messi.

But the self-proclaimed “shy” £107million star has dined with Messi and Co in a bid to improve his relationship with his new club’s stars.

Griezmann has a modest five goals 18 matches so far for Barcelona.
