ASTON VILLA’S survival hopes have suffered a huge blow after confirming star man John McGinn has suffered a fractured ankle.
The 25-year-old is now set to miss three months of the Premier League run-in following the injury he picked up against Southampton yesterday.

Scottish international McGinn suffered the damage when challenging Cedric Soares for the ball during early on in Villa’s 3-1 defeat to the Saints.
Villa confirmed the news on Sunday lunchtime, with the player then tweeting: “Thanks everyone for all the messages and support. Gutted but will be back before you know it.”
His loss will be a massive loss to boss Dean Smith after their latest defeat ensured they would spend Christmas in the bottom three.
That left the Villans three points adrift of safety.
And the news will also spark major fears for Scotland manager Steve Clarke.
McGinn, who has been watched closely by Manchester United, has played a key role in helping the Tartan Army to reach the Euro 2020 Play-Offs.
But now he faces a race against time to be fit for the crunch clashes with Israel at the end of March.
The winger has been playing through the pain barrier for a number of weeks already in order to help Villa’s survival push.
A tear in his thigh muscle failed to keep him out of action, but this latest injury is obviously a lot more serious.
McGinn has bagged three goals in the top-flight so far this campaign, and along with Jack Grealish, is the club’s main attacking weapon.
And his loss could not have come at a worst time for Smith and his side.
Villa take on the two teams below them in the table over the upcoming days.
Norwich make the trip to the Midlands on Boxing Day before Villa travel to Watford two days later.
