And they say the North London club will have their top talent spotters in Cardiff tonight to watch him in his country’s do-or-die Euro 2020 qualifier against Ryan Giggs’ Wales side.
Arsenal have been linked with the playmaker before.
Their initial approach, though, was centred on bringing Szoboszlai in during the summer of 2020 after he had gained another year of experience in Austria.
With Xhaka’s departure seemingly imminent, however, a transfer could happen in the January window.
Szoboszlai is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after stars in Europe, with Juventus and Inter Milan also circling.
SunSport told you Arsenal enquired about his services in September.
The club heard how he had the potential to “become the best central midfielder in the world” – and was given a £15m price tag.
A move never materialised but it seems Arsenal chiefs remain keen to do business.
Xhaka’s downfall has probably hastened the situation.
The Swiss midfielder, 27, was stripped of the captaincy after a “f*** off” rant against supporters in the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace.
He could now be offered back to former club Borussia Monchengladbach.
But the Gunners want the Germans’ star man Denis Zakaria in return, it has been claimed.
Szoboszlai has been in electrifying form for Salzburg so far this season, scoring four and supplying four assists in 16 games.
