Arsenal star Nicolas Pepe calls out Gunners after social media gaffe sees him tagged as Ainsley Maitland-Niles

NICOLAS PEPE called out Arsenal’s social media team after they made a gaffe on their Instagram page.

The Gunners put out a picture on social media of Pepe alongside goalkeeper Bernd Leno, with the caption: “Preppin for the weekend.”

The only problem was, they tagged in Ainsley Maitland-Niles rather than the £72million Ivorian.

Pepe spotted the error and commented: “It’s me” with a laughing emoji and one with a hand covering a face.

Arsenal quickly deleted the image, although not before it circulated on social media.

Pepe is expected to play some part against Southampton on Saturday despite arriving back late from international duty.

The winger, who has struggled in his first three months in English football, only got back on Thursday and missed training that day.

Under-fire boss Unai Emery revealed that Pepe would still be ready to go.

The Spaniard said: “Pepe arrived late because of travel and didn’t train with the group, but trained inside.

“He will be ready for Saturday.”

Pepe trained with the rest of the group on Friday.

Meanwhile, Arsenal legend Robert Pires reckons Arsenal are lacking leaders and an English core.

The Frenchman said: “We need English players because we are in England and nobody else has grown up with this mentality.

“You need to be born here. It’s very nice when you get to discover new countries but for me when you play in England you need English players.

“It’s a different time. But I used to play with David Seaman, Lee Dixon, Tony Adams, Martin Keown, Ashley Cole, Ray Parlour.

“We’re talking about six English players in the team. We need similar players. ‘Of course I respect the Arsenal philosophy but we are in the Premier League and it’s so tough every weekend.”
