Silva still lives in London and previously served as the technical director of Greek side Panathanaikos for a short spell in 2016.

The Guardian reports that Ljungberg will be also be able to audition for the role until the end of the season.

Ljungberg is desperate to impress and wants the job on a full-time basis.

But the Swede is under no illusions of the task he faces and expects no favours from another Invincible, technical director Edu.

He is well respected at the club having impressed in a variety of roles, from the under-15s, the under-23s and as a first-team coach.

The 42-year-old has bundles of knowledge of Arsenal’s academy stars and instantly promoted teenage striker Tyreece John-Jules, 18, to the senior squad.

After taking his first training session on Friday, he Tweeted: “However long I oversee Arsenal for I will give everything I have to put smiles on faces again.

“We have a busy few weeks ahead and the team needs your support.

“Let’s get to work!”
