For many, the final straw came over the weekend when Arsenal’s hapless defence conceded two goals without putting up a fight.
The Gunners haven’t won a match in any competition for over a month.
And faith in manager Unai Emery is seeping through the cracks.
Arsenal only needed a point to qualify for the knock-out stages of the competition, with a four-point lead over Standard Liege and Frankfurt going into the final two games.
And if Liege failed to beat Vitoria, then Emery’s side were guaranteed to win Group F.
Of course it is the Champions League the club have been pining for, with the club playing with this season and the previous three in Europe’s secondary competition.
The official attendance stood at 49,419 but it was clear there were far fewer supporters inside the ground.
There have been some odd sights just off Holloway Road in recent years, including a fan eating a bag of carrot batons.
Emery had his own version of an Arsene Wenger moment on the touchline the Frenchman used to call his home.
The Spaniard was told to remove a coat he was wearing because it clashed with Frankfurt’s all-black away kit.
