SIX world titles is an incredible achievement from Hamilton, who takes his place as the second most successful of all time.

So what next? Going for number seven!

Hamilton intends to hang around in F1. His contract at Mercedes has another year to run, but from the noises he is making here in Austin after seeing F1’s new rules for the 2021 season and beyond, he’s incredibly positive.

At 34, he is currently the third oldest driver on the grid, however, he is still just as sharp as when he came into this sport.

He even admits that he does not feel that he has reached his peak and that there is still more to come.

So, despite rumours of him quitting in the past, he is portraying a rather different message.

And it is also one that will encourage Mercedes. Hamilton has spoken about loyalty to the team and Mercedes boss Toto Wolff told SunSPORT in Japan that he expects the Brit to stay with them.

That would be a huge bonus to Mercedes, particularly given the new regulations and the looming cost-cap where Hamilton’s skill and experience will prove invaluable.

Of course, you still cannot rule out a switch to Ferrari but at this early stage you have to say that the smart money is on him staying with the Silver Arrows.

The bigger factor between Hamilton eclipsing Michael Schumacher’s total of seven world titles and 91 wins, will be the emergence of Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen.
