Wilder wants Ruiz Jr to beat Joshua – so he can finally have unification heavyweight bout against Mexican

DEONTAY WILDER wants to see Andy Ruiz Jr claim victory over Anthony Joshua because the Brit has “no interest” in facing him.

A fight between WBC heavyweight champ Wilder and the winner of Ruiz Jr and Joshua’s rematch would be a huge division unification bout.

But the American has to overcome this weekend’s reunion with Luis Ortiz and a touted February contest with Tyson Fury before stepping into the ring with whoever holds the WBA, IBF and WBO belts.

Even then, he fears AJ has little intention of actually signing a deal to hold the fight.

Speaking about the rematch to Sky Sports, Wilder said: “I prefer Ruiz Jr to win because we’re in the same stable.

“If he wins, we have the opportunity to unify the division. We finally have the opportunity to have one champion, one face, one name.

“If Joshua wins, I don’t think that’s going to be. He has stated that he has no interest in me.

“I really believe Andy will do it again. A lot of red flags have alerted me.

“If that same mindset and momentum go into the second fight, Ruiz Jr will win easily.”

Next up for Wilder though is the 40-year-old Cuban southpaw Ortiz, who the Bronze Bomber stopped in ten rounds in New York last year.

And the 34-year-old believes the contest is far from straightforward, stating: “I want to give people the best fights possible and that’s why I’m going in again with Luis Ortiz.

“I’m risking millions [of pounds].

“I’m risking everything to fight a dangerous guy in Luis Ortiz. That tells you my demeanour, my character, what I’m trying to do, and where I’m trying to go.”
