TYSON FURY has announced Javan ‘Sugar’ Hill will be his new trainer after his shock split with Ben Davison.
The Gypsy King decided to find a new coach just two months before his massive rematch with WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
Tyson Fury has announced Javan ‘Sugar’ Hill Steward, left, will be his new trainer after he split with Ben Davison
In the same day it was revealed Fury would be parting ways with Davison, the 31-year-old posted a picture on Instagram with the caption: “Getting the old team back up and running.”
Hill is the nephew of legendary Hall of Fame trainer Emmanuel Steward.
In a throwback snap, Fury poses with Steward at the famous Kronk gym, Detroit, with former world champion Andy Lee also pictured.
On the left of the picture stands Sugar, who will be the new man in the heavyweight’s corner.
Fury backdated his rematch with Wilder this year after signing a promotional deal with Top Rank, going on to have two Las Vegas fights this year, beating Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin.
The ex-unified champion spent time training at Top Rank’s Sin City gym, but it looks as though he will return to Detroit’s Kronk stable as he prepares to dethrone Wilder.
Fury revealed in his autobiography that he first visited the gym to train with Steward in 2009, but later returned to help train with Steward’s heavyweight champion, Wladimir Klitschko.
The legendary trainer gifted the Brit a pair of boxing boots – which he wore in 2015 to dethrone Klitschko of the unified titles.
Steward, though, had died three years earlier, but Hill took over the reigns and will welcome the 6ft 9in traveller back to Michigan.
Fury had iconic trainer Freddie Roach in his corner when he drew to Wilder in Los Angeles last year, with the Wild Card coach doing his cuts.
The split with Davison came as a shock, with the Gypsy King crediting the rookie trainer for turning his career around and helping him get in fighting shape after ballooning up to 28st.
