DEONTAY WILDER backed Anthony Joshua’s call for a mega-fight between the pair.
The Bronze Bomber was responding to statements by Joshua who claimed he wants to become undisputed champ after he beat Andy Ruiz Jr at the second time of asking.
Deontay Wilder has backed Anthony Joshua’s call for the two of them to fight
And it now appears both men intend on becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis.
WBC heavyweight champion Wilder echoed Joshua’s sentiments saying the fight with WBA, IBF and WBO champion AJ “definitely has to happen.”
Wilder, 34, told Sky Sports: “It definitely has to happen.
“I’ve been trying to make that happen for a long time and we’ll see what happens.
“I know he’s probably getting a hell of a lot of people, telling him to fight, fight, fight, because we have been down this road once before.
“So as boxing fans, we know how it goes now.
“You can’t be fooled at this point in time, from the first time.
“So the second time we should put more pressure, more force.
“Fans want to see one champion, one face, one name in the heavyweight division.”
But many fans feel like they have heard this rhetoric before and pressed and whether he thinks it actually will happen, Wilder hardly cleared things up.
He said: “I think it will happen. It definitely can happen.”
Joshua recently sparked calls for the bout to take place soon when he tweeted: “Let’s get Undisputed trending!
“That’s what I want and that’s what the people want.
“I want it bad!
“I came to take over & not take part!”
