Carl Frampton destroys Tyler McCreary in Las Vegas in first fight since Warrington and eyes world title clash next

CARL FRAMPTON beat Tyler McCreary in Las Vegas by unanimous decision and called for a super-featherweight world title clash.

The former super-bantamweight and featherweight champion returned to the ring for the first time since losing to IBF champion Josh Warrington in December.

Frampton, 32, was fighting at a career heaviest 130lbs, but out-muscled and boxed his way to a decision victory in Sin City.

After the win, the Northern Irishman called out WBO super-featherweight champion Jamel Herring, with The Jackal hellbent on becoming a three-division ruler.

Frampton said: “I know [Jamel] is the champ. I just want to fight for a world title next.

“I want to be involved in big fights. I would love the opportunity to fight Jamel. I’m not the champion. He’s the champion.”

Frampton had to endure a frustrating year, having seen his comeback bout against Emmanuel Dominguez in August axed at the last minute, having suffered a “freak” injury to his hand in the hotel lobby.

But the Jamie Moore-trained Brit took out his anger on McCreary, twice dropping the American.

Frampton had his man on the canvas in round six after a beautiful combination was capped off with a body shot that left McCreary floored.

After a dominating few rounds, the former two-weight world champion dropped his Ohio opponent with a succession of left hooks in the ninth.

Previously unbeaten McCreary suffered his first defeat in 18 fights but survived a stoppage loss – as Frampton’s prior hand injury forced him to target the body throughout the bout.

Fans stunned by Anthony Joshua’s ‘lean’ new look as he posts topless photo ahead of Andy Ruiz Jr rematch

He said: “I was happy. That was the plan, to target the body. Tyler is pretty tall. We’ve seen that he’s left gaps.

“My hand wasn’t great coming into the camp as well. It’s always a bit softer hitting the body than the head.

“I feel like I hurt it again in the second round, so that’s why it wasn’t the most exciting fight in the world, but I just cruised to a points win. I just wanted to be safe with my hands.”
