Amir Khan refuses to give up on dream of fighting Mayweather after US legend claims he is coming out of retirement

AMIR KHAN refused to rule out finally meeting Floyd Mayweather in the ring after the American said he will come out of retirement.

Mayweather walked away from the sport in 2017 after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor, but made a cameo a year later smashing kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition bout.

But the 42-year-old claimed he is ‘coming out of retirement in 2020’ to work on a ‘spectacular event’ alongside UFC boss Dana White.

Ex-world champion Khan – who tirelessly chased a fight with the US legend for years – still wants to settle the score with Money, but also welcomes a clash against Manny Pacquiao.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m looking at the 147lb division, welterweight I should make quite easy, it’s not hard. I hope to be back in ring March-April time.

“There are some big names being talked about, Mayweather may return to Manny Pacquiao.”

Khan believed he was going to fight Mayweather in 2013 and even DECLINED a world title fight against Devon Alexander to force through the bout.

But the Bolton star was left empty handed, and was again heartbroken in 2014 when Mayweather ran a poll letting fans decide who he should fight next.

Khan beat Marcos Maidana in the online vote, yet Mayweather still refused to fight the Brit.

The American would go on to twice beat Maidana – an opponent Khan won against in 2010.

In the tail end of 32-year-old’s career it has been a similar story with Kell Brook, though his domestic rival has instead been the chaser.

With retirement around the corner for both men, Khan revealed he is still open to finally fighting Brook.

He said: “Maybe a Kell brook fight in the UK, my options are all open.

“Rematches can happen, there’s Danny Garcia. There’s some big fights out there.

“I’ve just got to keep calm, keep training, hopefully get that big fight in April or May.”
