A DUTCH Olympic athlete has reportedly been arrested in Germany with nearly £2million worth of ecstasy and crystal meth in the boot of her car.
Madiea Ghafoor – a 400m sprinter – was apprehended near Holland’s border with Germany on Thursday, June 18 with 50kg of drugs, according to NOS (Dutch Broadcasting Foundation).
Ghafoor, 26, was Dutch National Indoor 400m champion in 2018 and was part of the 4x400m relay team in the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
According to NOS, German police arrested the sprinter during a routine check near the border town of Elten – which is just 17 miles from the city of Arnhem in Holland.
Though the German public prosecution department confirmed a Dutch woman had been arrested, they did not confirm her identity.
But the same office did confirm the drugs have a street value of a staggering £1.8m.
And this is not the first story involving athletes getting mixed up with drugs in recent days.
Scottish 10km runner Luke Traynor yesterday apologised for testing positive for cocaine.
While heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte could face a career-ending eight year ban after illegal substances were reportedly found in his system before his points victory over Oscar Rivas on Saturday.
But Whyte insists he ‘beat Rivas fair and square’ in an Instagram post released since the story broke.
