Man Utd boost as Leeds star Kalvin Phillips ‘set to switch agents to seal stunning summer transfer’

Leeds and England star Kalvin Phillips continues to be linked with a move to Man UtdCredit: Rex
Phillips, 26, was being ‘circled’ by super-agents earlier this season.
The England ace is currently represented by former Leeds full-back Kevin Sharp, who was confident of keeping hold of Phillips as his client earlier in the campaign.
But with the Leeds academy graduate’s contract with Sharp set to expire, the MEN claim that Phillips will be changing agent in order to eventually get his move.
However, the Daily Mail later claimed Phillips will SNUB a move to Old Trafford out of loyalty to his current club.

Jesse Marsch’s side are currently planning to have their star midfielder still at the club next season.
Although they are growing resigned to him leaving at some stage.
Phillips is under contract with Leeds until 2024.
The Whites are hoping that interested parties will be put off by his 14-week hamstring injury layoff.

SIR JIM RATCLIFFE has lodged a late £4 billion bid to complete the takeover of Chelsea according to reports. The British billionaire approached Raine Group this morning and decided to submit a sensational last minute offer to own the club.
Meanwhile, the winning takeover bid has been delayed once again – where potential owners will now have to wait until next week.
And West Ham legend Tony Cottee believes that Declan Rice would prefer a move to Stamford Bridge over any of the other top clubs.

    Bakayoko heading back to Bridge
Chelsea are set to find themselves stuck with Tiemoue Bakayoko again.
That’s because AC Milan will reportedly terminate his loan deal this summer – a YEAR early.
Nicolo Schira claims Stefano Pioli has stopped picking Bakayoko to avoid triggering a £12.5million permanent deal clause.
And the Frenchman is so far down the pecking order that Milan would rather boot him out of the San Siro altogether than keep him until 2023.
    Who is Chelsea bidder Ratcliffe?
Chemical engineer Jim Ratcliffe was on the Sunday Times Rich List 2021 with a personal fortune estimated at £6.33billion.
And the Brit is now leading the race to buy Chelsea after submitting a mega £4bn bid on Friday.
But just who is the billionaire entrepeneur?

    More on Jim Ratcliffe’s bid
“We will continue to invest in the team to ensure we have a first class squad of the world’s greatest players, coaches and support staff, in the men’s and women’s games.
“And we hope to continue to invest in the academy to provide opportunity for talented youngsters to develop into first class players.
“We believe that London should have a club that reflects the stature of the city. One that is held in the same regard as Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich. We intend Chelsea to be that club.
“We are making this investment as fans of the beautiful game – not as a means to turn a profit. We do that with our core businesses. The club is rooted in its community and its fans. And it is our intention to invest in Chelsea FC for that reason.
“No further comment will be made from Sir Jim or INEOS during the bidding process.”
    Full statement on Ratcliffe bid
“Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of Ineos, has made a formal bid for Chelsea FC, for £4.25bn. £2.5bn is committed to the Charitable Trust to support victims of the war, with £1.75bn committed to investment directly into the club over the next 10 years.
“This is a British bid, for a British club. We believe that a club is bigger than its owners who are temporary custodians of a great tradition. With responsibility to the fans and the community.
“That is why we are committing to spending £1.75bn over 10 years that will be for the direct benefit of the club.
“We will invest in Stamford Bridge to make it a world-class stadium, befitting of Chelsea FC.
“This will be organic and ongoing so that we will not move away from the home of Chelsea and risk losing the support of loyal fans.”
    Tuchel excited by Lampard meeting
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed he is looking forward to finally meeting Frank Lampard when the Blues take on Everton on Sunday, and wants to thank him for the introduction he gave him to life at Stamford Bridge.
“He sent me a very kind, respectful message after I took over at Chelsea that meant a lot. I was a huge fan of him as a player, and he is – and will remain – a legend at our club,” said Tuchel at his press conference ahead of the weekend.
“We didn’t have the chance to go out for lunch, and then he took the chance to take charge of Everton. He took an assistant from us, Joe Edwards, too and we were not so happy! I’m just joking.
“We will meet some friendly faces [on Sunday] with Joe and Ashley Cole, and Frank, who I have never met in person.
“We need the points, and they need the points urgently as well. It is an exciting week for me personally. Everybody tells me about the atmosphere at Goodison Park, how emotional and how tough it is to play there.”

Breaking: Ratcliffe makes £4bn bid for Chelsea
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made a dramatic late bid to buy Chelsea, according to Matt Dickinson at The Times.
The British billionaire approached Raine Group this morning and submitted an offer in the area of £4billion.
The owner of petrochemicals giant, Ineos, met with Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck on Thursday to discuss the possibility of a bid for consideration.
“We put an offer in this morning,” Ratcliffe told The Times. “We are the only British bid. Our motives are simply to try and create a very fine club in London. We have no profit motive because we make our money in other ways.”.
Ratcliffe, a season ticket holder at Stamford Bridge, wishes to use £1.75bn of his offer in order to upgrade the team and stadium.
    Winning bid announcement delayed again
The wait to learn the identity of the new Chelsea owners will go into next week after it was suggested that there is still some confusion as to the allocation of funds from the sale.
New York Times reporter Tariq Panja tweeted that government have been left frustrated and unsatisfied by the answers to some of their questions.

    Frank-ly depressing fixture for Toffees
Chelsea return to Premier League action on Sunday – and could strike a dagger through the heart of one of their favourite sons.
The Blues travel to Everton, now managed by their record goalscorer Frank Lampard, and anything less than a Toffees win will leave the Merseyside club in the relegation zone with five games to play.
Lampard will become the tenth former Chelsea manager to take charge of a Premier League match against the Blues, and the signs are not good for the 43-year-old.
Only one of the previous nine former Chelsea bosses has won their first such match (D1 L7),
The exception is Claudio Ranieri, who won 2-1 with Leicester in December 2015 on his way to winning the title with the Foxes.
    Cottee: Rice would prefer Chelsea
Declan Rice’s preference would be to join Chelsea, according to one West Ham legend.
Tony Cottee believes that out of the top clubs tracking the Hammers captain, it is Stamford Bridge that is his most likely destination.
In a conversation with MyBettingSites, TC said: “I think if you honestly ask him the question, [Declan Rice] would probably prefer to go to Chelsea.
“Declan was at Chelsea as a youngster, left there at the age of fourteen to sign for West Ham.
“His best friend is Mason Mount, so there are lots of reasons for him to go to Chelsea.”
Breaking: Kerr named Footballer of the Year
Chelsea’s Sam Kerr has been named as the Football Writers’ Association as Women’s Footballer of the Year.
The Australian has struck 18 goals in 18 appearances in the WSL this season, helping her club to close in on the league title.
Former Blues player Mo Salah picked up the men’s award, the Liverpool ace winning it for the second time.

Madrid see James as Real deal
Real Madrid are at the front of a pack of European clubs hoping to land Chelsea star Reece James.
Nizaar Kinsella understands that the Spanish giants have already spoken to the player’s representatives about bringing the wing-back to the Bernabeu.
Naturally, the Blues hope to keep their England star happy at the Bridge, and are keen to extend his contract that currently runs until 2025.
However, James is one of the lowest-paid players at the clubs, and could well be tempted by a bumper deal with one of the biggest clubs in the game.
It is suggested that Real would prefer to do a deal for the defender in 2023 so as to concentrate on attacking areas this summer.
    Boehly bid leading the charge
The bid headed by LA Dodgers owner Todd Boehly is in the lead to buy Chelsea.
Sources close to the consortium have told the Daily Mail that they expect their offer for the football club to be announced as the approved option in the coming days.
However, those involved with the rival bids of Sir Martin Broughton and Steve Pagliuca have not given up hope, and hope to convince Raine Group before a final decision is made.
It was revealed yesterday that the three bidders have been asked to stump up an extra £500million in order to help boost a £1billion charitable donation to be made upon the sale of the Stamford Bridge outfit.
    Roy so keen on James
Former Manchester United star Roy Keane believes that Chelsea are lucky to have a player of Reece James’ ability.
The Irishman, speaking in his role as pundit for Sky Sports, revealed himself to be a huge fan of the defender following last night’s 1-1 draw between his former club and the Blues at Old Trafford.
“What a player Reece James is,” said Keane during the analysis of the game.
“He looks like a boxer. His distribution, movement, strength. He seems like a nice kid too. He’s a clever lad, could play in any position.
“Chelsea are a lucky club to have him. Outstanding.”
James picked up the Man of the Match award for his performance during the Premier League encounter.

    Good morning Chelsea fans
Thomas Tuchel’s men played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Marcos Alonso handed Chelsea the lead with a striker’s finish.
But Cristiano Ronaldo equalised minutes later to share the points.
Antonio Rudiger is edging closer to his Real Madrid free transfer with his medical being planned for the next few days, according to reports.
The Chelsea defender’s Stamford Bridge contract expires this summer.
And after Thomas Tuchel confirmed he would not be signing an extension, it is widely expected the centre-back will join Real for free.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson has said that Man Utd midfielder Paul Pogba doesn’t have “the character to suit either Liverpool or Chelsea.”
And finally, the three prospective owners of Chelsea have been asked to increase their offers by £500million by outgoing billionaire Roman Abramovich.
Martin Kleinman at Sky News reports that the Russian owner is demanding the additional money to help augment a £1billion charitable donation to be made upon the sale of the football club.
The increase in price effectively guarantees “a minimum headline price for the club of £2.5billion.”
    Chelsea verdict
Chelsea suffered yet more dejavu as they dominated Manchester United but paid the price for lacking a goalscorer.
Kai Havertz, signed for over £70million from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, missed two golden chances in the first half at Old Trafford.
The German is not an out and out striker but has led the line well at times for the Blues this season.
But his squandered chances in Manchester prove Chelsea are still being haunted by a lack of clinical finishing.
Last year’s Champions League winners might have thought they had solved that problem after signing Romelu Lukaku in the summer.
But the club-record £97.5million signing is edging towards a second flop spell at Stamford Bridge.
‘I hope Ten Hag is watching’
A deflated Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his assessment of Manchester United during their 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
The Red Devils legend tore into Ralf Rangnick’s flops, slamming the players as “embarrassing” despite the two teams sharing the points.
Neville blasted: “Man United are the type of team for any football fan watching that you almost want to get beat.
“They need beating, they set a really poor example around work ethic and trying – and all the things that parents and teachers tell their children every single day.”
Full time – Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea
    It’s all over!
The points are shared in Manchester.
United did grow into the game in the second half and it was their main man who came to the rescue.
Chelsea will feel frustrated. They should have put the game to bed in the first 45 minutes.

    79, James hits the post!
The ball is fired into Mount who is aware and delicately flicks the ball on for James who curls the ball around the defender straight on to the post.
So, so close. De Gea was beaten.

74, Jorginho is on the deck receiving treatment after tweaking something.
Chance to take on some liquid for the others.

    Goals galore at Old Trafford
Chelsea took the lead in the 59th minute through Marcos Alonso.
    The left-back turned in a striker’s finish.
But the Blues’ lead didn’t last long with the returning Cristiano Ronaldo scoring for the second game in a row.
    1-1.

    Half-time – Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea
Mike Dean blows his whistle and the players head for the dressing rooms.
Rangnick scratches his head. What do you say about that?
Chelsea have moved the ball well and created plenty of chances. But their forwards, Havertz in particular, haven’t been able to make them count.
Manchester United have been lifeless, but somehow find themselves still in the game.
    Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea
21, Two chances for Chelsea, both coming down that right hand side.
Jorginho sprays a ball across the area, but no one was quick enough to get there.
Then Mount is freed before firing a ball across the box. But De Ge gets there before Havertz.

    Manchester United 0-0 Chelsea
12, Rashford attempts to weave his way past Thiago Silva.
The chance looks to have gone, but he keeps the pressure on and wins the corner off the Brazilian.
The corner is headed back into the danger area where Ronaldo was waiting. He got up for the spectacular. But his bicycle kick doesn’t trouble Mendy in goal.
    Almost, almost incredible.
    Jesse Lingard dropped
Jesse Lingard has been dropped from Manchester United’s matchday squad for personal reasons just days after calling their dressing room a “disaster”.
Red Devils legend Paul Scholes recently let slip that Lingard told him about the sorry state of affairs behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick took a backhanded swipe at Lingard following Scholes’ confession.
And the German has now dropped the England international altogether for tonight’s clash with Chelsea at the Theatre of Dreams.

However, Daily Telegraph reporter Matt Law, has claimed that Broughton may be “out of the running” from the ongoing bidding war.
That means the Mercedes superstar, who previously admitted he was bullied into supporting Arsenal, would also out of the equation.
However, there is no official confirmation from Sir Martin’s camp at this moment.
Hamilton recently said about his involvement: “Ultimately, I’m a sporting fan – it’s the biggest sport in the world and Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world and most successful.

Ronaldo rescues Red Devils AGAIN, Rangnick CONFIRMED as Austria coach, Sancho could be OUT for the season – updates

CRISTIANO RONALDO kept Manchester United’s Champions League hopes alive with a sensational finish in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea last night. The Portuguese icon scored minutes after the Blues grabbed the opener which gives the Red Devils an outside of chance of landing in the top four.
Meanwhile, Ralf Rangnick has officially been confirmed as the new manager of the Austrian national football team.
However, the German will combine his new job with the consultancy role at United.
And summer signing Jadon Sancho could be OUT for the season with tonsillitis

    Rangnick’s part-time United role
Ralf Rangnick will work just six days a month in his consultancy role at Man Utd.
The Telegraph claims United’s current interim will definitely combine the behind-the-scenes role with his newly-announced job as Austria boss.
But Rangnick’s involvement at United will be limited to less than one week each month.
And it’s believed his main focus will be on helping Erik ten Hag with recruitment.
    Exclusive by SunSport’s Jake Lambourne
Danny Mills has urged Erik ten Hag to complete an overhaul of Man Utd’s backroom staff – and not just the playing squad.
Mills said: “I think he’s got to clear out the backroom staff. There’s a lot of legacy people at United who know the club inside out, but it hasn’t worked for the last ten years now.
“They’ve struggled and when you bring a new manager in, with the way they work wanting to develop players and younger players through to the first team…
“I think he needs to clear out the backroom staff and bring his own people. You don’t have the issues of ‘well we used to do it this way’.
“One bad apple can spoil the whole barrel, it’s easy to point fingers when you’re not winning games and compare it to Sir Alex Ferguson.
“You don’t need any of that influence, United have struggled for long enough so it should be a clean sweep and start again.”
    Man Utd’s mega money wages
Bruno Fernandes is the latest Red Devil to pen a lucrative long-term deal.
The Portuguese playmaker saw his weekly earning skyrocket to a staggering £240,000.
But there are still SIX other players at Man Utd currently pocketing even more dosh.

Sancho could be out for season
Manchester United may have to play the final three games of the season without Jadon Sancho.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick confirmed this afternoon that the England international missed last night’s match with Chelsea due to tonsillitis.
“Jadon [Sancho] might be out for the rest of the season with his tonsillitis so he will be unavailable against Brentford,” revealed Rangnick at his Friday press conference.
“He’s got inflammation on his tonsils and has also had some high temperatures.
“Hopefully, they can get hold of that inflammation and if the tonsils have to be taken out and removed, this can happen at the end of the season.”
    Keane sunk by United subs
Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has been slammed by Roy Keane for bringing Juan Mata on against Chelsea in Thursday’s 1-1 draw.
With the Red Devils needing a victory to remain in the race for fourth, Rangnick turned to the 34-year-old, who will be leaving the club in the summer.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Keane said: “It’s like a tribute to Mata, I thought it was his testimonial tonight. You’re Man United, you’re fighting for points, you’re playing for pride.
“It’s all like ‘we’ll give him a game, we’ll bring [Phil] Jones on, everyone gets a round of applause,’ you’re there to try and win a game of football for Man United.
“Forget all this ‘oh we’ll give someone 20 minutes because he’s leaving in a few weeks’ actually you should have left two years ago, a few of them.
“Get young lads on who are hopefully going to be there for the future and get a taste of playing at Old Trafford, playing against really good players in terms of Chelsea.”
    Breaking: Rangnick confirms two jobs
Ralf Rangnick has been officially confirmed as the new manager of the Austria national team – but will continue to work at Manchester United in a consultancy role.
The German has agreed a two-year deal with the Austrian Football Association to lead the national side until the 2024 European Championships.
However, the 62-year-old will combine his new job with a consultancy role at Manchester United, and insists he’s committed to helping the club to rebuild.
A statement from Rangnick reads: “I will take over as national team manager of Austria at the end of the season but will continue my consultancy with Manchester United.
“I’m really looking forward to playing my part in helping United become a real force.”

    Keane slams whole-hearted Matic
Nemanja Matic and Reece James clashed during the second half of last night’s match at Old Trafford.
But while Roy Keane was full of praise for James after the game, stating that Chelsea were ‘lucky’ to have him, he was less than impressed with Matic.
Keane was enraged by the Serbian midfielder’s post-match interview in which he claimed the Red Devils would always be in his heart – before adding that so too would former club Chelsea.
Back in the Sky Sports studio, Keane mocked Matic’s comments, saying: “Where’s the standards at the club?
“Matic’s talking about ‘I’m leaving, I’ve had a great time, Man United will always be in my heart, oh and Chelsea as well, oh and Benfica don’t forget them’. They all can’t be in your heart.”
    Ralf set for international appointment
Ralf Rangnick will today be officially announced as the new head coach of Austria.
A press conference in Vienna is scheduled for 11.45am when the appointment will be announced.
The 63-year-old will link up with the Austrian national team until 2024.
Rangnick is expected to remain in his consultancy role with Manchester United while leading the Austrians.
    Ten Hag: Leave me alone!
Erik ten Hag has told Manchester United officials not to contact him.
But don’t worry, Red Devils, the request only concerns the 48 hours prior to Ajax matches while he concludes his time with the Amsterdam club.
ESPN understand that Ten Hag, who will take over as manager at Old this summer, needs two days free of distractions before each game.
Top-of-the-table Ajax are looking to claim the Eredivisie title for a fourth season in succession, and lead PSV by four points with four games to play.
On your Marcs: Gunners want Rashford
Arsenal have registered their interest in Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, reports suggest.
That is according to Football Insider, who claim that the Gunners have set aside £45million to boost their attack and are looking to splash it all on Rashford in the summer.
The forward has struggled at United this season after starting out with a shoulder injury, and his future at the club is ‘up in the air’.
The North Londoners are desperate to land an attacker from the top shelf this summer and the England international is reportedly a ‘leading target’.
Arsenal lost star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona during the January transfer window.
Manager Mikel Arteta is also likely to be left without any centre-forwards at the end of the season as Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s contracts run out in June.

Breaking: Greenwood bail to be extended
Police want extra time to investigate Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood after he was arrested on suspicion of rape, assault and threats to kill.
The 20-year-old’s bail is due to end tomorrow, but a request has been submitted to extend that deadline.
However, Mike Keegan at the Daily Mail understands that a decision on the request may not be made until mid-June.
In the meantime, the footballer will remain on conditional bail.
    United suffer De Jong blow
Manchester United’s ambitious hopes of landing Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong have suffered a blow after it emerged moneybags PSG were also in for the midfielder.
The Dutch star worked with Erik ten Hag at Ajax, and has been linked with a reunion ever since the new Manchester United manager was officially confirmed.
Barcelona do not wish to sell one of their stars but could be tempted by a large offer while they continue to get back on a stable financial footing.
And that is likely to leave the Ligue 1 club in pole position given their resources, and United’s need to bring in quantity as well as quality.
    Dream comes true for Garnacho
Alejandro Garnacho hailed his Manchester United debut as a ‘dream come true’ after coming on for the closing stages of Thursday’s draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
There have been calls for the 17-year-old to be included in the first team in recent weeks, and the winger finally got the nod with United missing eight regulars.
The Spanish-born Argentine tweeted after his late cameo: “Incredible moment making my debut at 17 years old for Manchester United in the Premier League at the Theatre of Dreams.”
“I can’t put into words what I’m feeling right now, I’ve been dreaming of this moment since I was 4 years old.
“Remember guys, Dreams really do come true.”

    Rangnick praises De Gea display
Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick reckons David de Gea’s first half performance was key to the Red Devils earning a point at home to Chelsea.
The German coach admitted his side struggled in the opening 45 to keep the Blues at bay, and needed a string of fine saves from their Spanish stopper to keep them on level terms.
“It was a good point for us,” Rangnick revealed afterwards.
“In the first half, Chelsea dominated the game. We had massive problem in closing down the spaces although our gameplan was to attack them higher and be aggressive but, to be honest, it was very difficult for us to do that.
“You can see that they have top players and also very good organisation.
“That showed in the first half, and we needed some great saves from David de Gea and some last ditch tackles.”

    Good morning Man Utd fans
Ralf Rangnick’s side played out a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Marcos Alonso handed Chelsea the lead with a striker’s finish.
But Cristiano Ronaldo equalised minutes later to share the points.
A deflated Gary Neville didn’t hold back in his assessment.
Neville blasted: “Man United are the type of team for any football fan watching that you almost want to get beat.
“They need beating, they set a really poor example around work ethic and trying – and all the things that parents and teachers tell their children every single day.”
Fans protested against the Glazer family during their crunch clash with Chelsea.
Die-hard United supporters were pictured holding banners reading “Glazers Out” before kick-off at Old Trafford.
On the transfer front, Arsenal have registered their interest in United star Marcus Rashford, reports suggest.
That is according to Football Insider, who claim that the Gunners have set aside £45million to boost their attack and are looking to splash it all on Rashford in the summer transfer window.
And finally, Rangnick has been offered the job as manager of the Austrian national team.
But SunSport understands the 63-year-old would still continue in his advisory position at Manchester United when Erik ten Hag takes over as boss.
Austrian outlet Kurier claim Rangnick is close to being named as the new head coach.
    Man Utd verdict
Harry Maguire should hardly be that worried that he will lose the Manchester United captaincy once Erik Ten Hag shows up.
Certainly not on the basis of the first audition of suitable candidates on view against Chelsea.
The England central defender’s role as skipper of the Red Devils is under threat.
Interim manager Ralf Rangnick declared that a vote should be held amongst the players for who will wear the famous arm band next season.
And that means Maguire, missing against Chelsea and who will also be out with knee trouble for the remaining three games of United’s miserable campaign, won’t get the German’s recommendation to carry on.
He suggests a players’ council, similar to what is in place at Manchester City and Arsenal.
That could mean several players will lead the team as opposed to only one.
Yet no one player stood out as his replacement even if Bruno Fernandes was captain for the night and will probably be given the responsibility through those last fixtures.

Man Utd fans hold ‘Glazers out’ banners
Manchester United fans are protesting against the Glazer family during their crunch clash with Chelsea.
Die-hard United supporters were pictured holding banners reading ‘Glazers Out’ before kick-off at Old Trafford.
They were also heard chanting they want the American owners out during the first half, with ‘We want Glazers Out’ and ‘Stand up if you hate the Glazers’ ringing around Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are experiencing a shocking campaign despite a busy summer transfer window that saw them signing stars like Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane – as well as legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Manchester giants are sixth in the Premier League and are likely to miss out on Champions League football next season.
United have also conceded a whopping 51 goals in 35 league matches, which is the worst return out of the entire top eight.

    79, James hits the post!
The ball is fired into Mount who is aware and delicately flicks the ball on for James who curls the ball around the defender straight on to the post.
So, so close. De Gea was beaten.

74, Jorginho is on the deck receiving treatment after tweaking something.

    Goals galore at Old Trafford
Chelsea took the lead in the 59th minute through Marcos Alonso.
    The left-back turned in a striker’s finish.
But the Blues’ lead didn’t last long with the returning Cristiano Ronaldo scoring for the second game in a row.
    1-1.

Fernandes gets this second half underway.
    No changes for either side.

Man Utd ‘isn’t the place to go’ for West Ham star Declan Rice and should stay put, says Hammers hero Anton Ferdinand

MANCHESTER United “isn’t the place to go” for wanted West Ham man Declan Rice, says Hammers hero Anton Ferdinand. Both Manchester clubs and Chelsea are all said to be keen on acquiring the England star’s services this summer.

However, West Ham have remained firm in their stance that their vice captain IS NOT for sale.
And it would take a reported £150million OR MORE to prize him away from the East London club.
Rice has spoken openly about his desire to win trophies, but Ferdinand says Man Utd “isn’t the place to go” for that.
This is despite the Red Devils being in the process of a major rebuild, with Ajax boss Erik ten Hag set to take the reins at the end of this season.

“For me personally, if I’m Rice, Man Utd is not a place that I’d be going. I’d wait a few years and see what Ten Hag does.
“Whether he can implement what he did at Ajax at Man Utd and get them looking more like a team that can challenge.
“Otherwise, what’s the point in leaving West Ham to go somewhere you’re not even challenging for a title.

“You’re challenging to get into Europe. That’s what West Ham are doing – challenging to get into the Champions League.
“We’ve got something to build on. He’d be in the same place at Man Utd and all it would come down to is the stature of the football club.
“As a footballer myself, I’m not going somewhere just because it’s a bigger club.
“You’ve got everything at a club where you’re loved and you’re the main man.

“At Man Utd, you’ll be one of many. Whereas, you can stay at West Ham and challenge for Europe and be the main man.”
For West Ham fan Ferdinand, who made his Hammers debut against Preston in 2003, Rice’s decision to either join or snub Man Utd is easy.
Ferdinand says if he was in Rice’s shoes, he’d rather stay put.
But the former centre-back, 37, accepts if a ready-made title-challenging team came calling and stumped up the cash, it would be “hard to keep” Rice.

He continued: “Me personally, I’d rather stay [than join United].
“But if it was one of the teams that were fighting for the league, and they came up with the money, it would be hard for West Ham to keep him.
“Like I said, if he did go, as fans we’d appreciate what he has done for the club.
“He’d always be loved and classed as a legend.
It would take a fee north of £100m to tempt the Hammers to sell their star manCredit: GETTY
“And if we got £100m-plus for him and it went back into the playing squad, then we can’t grumble.”
Rice is under contract at West Ham until the summer of 2024 but the club have an option to extend by a further year.
West Ham have reportedly tried to tie Rice down to a new mega deal.
But any offer put on the table so far has been knocked back.
Keeping Rice would be the “best news of the summer”Credit: GETTY
Should West Ham stand firm and fend off any interest from England’s big boys, it would be the “best news of the summer” – even if he doesn’t put pen to paper on a bumper contract.
Ferdinand said: “Keeping Rice would be the best news of the summer, even if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
“We’re going to need him, that’s a fact. He has added more to his game.
“He has added more goals, he drives with the ball.
Ferdinand says if Maguire was bought for £80m, Rice is worth £100m-plusCredit: REX FEATURES
“He’s not just sitting and breaking the play up. He’s involved with everything.
“But this is football and when the likes of Man City are interested in you and they can pay the money – if we do lose him we’ve got to get as much as we can.
“Gone are the days of Harry Maguire going for £80m. Rice, £100m-plus, that’s a fact.
“If we are going to lose him, we’ve got to lose him to good money and it has to be invested back into the playing squad.

“My take on it, and I know some fans feel the same way. If we did lose him, we would be gutted.
“But if we maximised the money on him and that money went back into the playing squad, the fans would be happy.”
Rice has been a standout performer for David Moyes’ high-flying Hammers this season.
The 23-year-old has captained West Ham to their first European semi-final in 46 years.

The Hammers are taking on Eintracht Frankfurt, who they beat in their last semi outing, in a Europa League double-header.
But despite this, Ferdinand has backed winger Jarrod Bowen to take Rice’s Hammer of the Year crown.
Bowen has found the back of the net 15 times this term and has assisted 11 goals.
The winger was unlucky to miss out on Gareth Southgate’s England squad for March after he was ruled out through injury.

On who is his Hammer of the Year, Ferdinand said: “I think Dawson has been unbelievable this year. I think he has been fantastic.
“It would be easy to sit here and say Declan because of who he is, what he has done and what he is achieving.
“But the person that I think we missed through the period where we fell out of the conversation for the top four was Bowen, who was injured.
“So for me, Bowen would be the Hammer of the Year this year.

“We believe that a club is bigger than its owners who are temporary custodians of a great tradition. With responsibility to the fans and the community.
“That is why we are committing to spending £1.75bn over 10 years that will be for the direct benefit of the club.
“We will invest in Stamford Bridge to make it a world-class stadium, befitting of Chelsea FC.
“This will be organic and ongoing so that we will not move away from the home of Chelsea and risk losing the support of loyal fans.
