Anthony Joshua shares throwback clip showing off speed as he works out to iconic Rocky theme

ANTHONY JOSHUA went whack to the future – with the Rocky theme blaring out in a clip of his hypnotic hand-speed as a youth and now.
The Brit took inspiration from his childhood to rev up for a triple world heavyweight title defence against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in December.

World champ Anthony Joshua seems to be adding on the muscle as he meets fellow Brit Tyson Fury in Marbella
The 30-year-old’s rat-a-tat rhythm contrasted with the slower pounding of the iconic boxing movie tune.
But then and now he showed the same gym routine that helped take the 2012 Olympic super-heavyweight king to the top as both an amateur and pro.
AJ has of course piled on the muscle since then, particularly in recent weeks, with ripped shots of him almost bursting out of tops.
And he was snapped “accidentally” bumping into Tyson Fury in Marbella in a bulging white T-shirt, suggesting he will be much bulkier against Pulev than he was in dethroning his only ever conqueror Andy Ruiz last December.

By coincidence, Muhammad Ali was also in his second reign as world heavyweight champ when the first Rocky film came out in 1976.

But it was AJ’s maturity rather than movie-style heroics that impressed most when he dismantled Ruiz for revenge.
And promoter Eddie Hearn insists Joshua must prepare just as shrewdly against Pulev.
Hearn told Sky Sports: “Sparring wise? You need a tall, stand-up fighter who is technically sound.

“Pulev is very experienced, very good technically, punches a bit. You need to find a tall heavyweight that replicates that style.

Mike Tyson, 54, looks in frightening shape with bulging leg muscles while training for return against Jones Jr

MIKE TYSON has shown off his frightening shape as he prepares to make an eagerly anticipated boxing comeback aged 54.
Tyson is training to box fellow legend Roy Jones Jr, 51, in an eight-round exhibition on September 12 in California.

Mike Tyson looks in frightening shape as he prepares to make a boxing comeback aged 54
The youngest heavyweight champion of all time has been in the gym since March working alongside MMA coach Rafael Cordeiro.
Cordeiro shared an image of a trimmed down Tyson looking in sensational form – and fans are getting behind Iron Mike.
One said: “@miketyson looks like he is morphing into his old boxing self its an amazing journey to watch!”
    Another said: “He looks massive.”

One added: “@miketyson is a legend. Keep being great.”
Tyson hasn’t fought since 2005, the night he retired after losing to Kevin McBride.
But on his comeback, the California State Athletic Commission, who have sanctioned the bout, urged the headliners to restrain from knockouts.
But Jones, who tried to fight Tyson in 2003, knows the commission “can’t control” the feared puncher and will treat the bout like any of his other 75.

Mike Tyson says a normal person could take his punches if they ‘don’t fear death’ and reveals he was a ‘nervous’ fighter

BOXING legend Mike Tyson has revealed how a “normal person” could take one of his punches if they had no fear of death.
Iron Mike was considered one of the most brutal and hardest hitters in the sport after being crowned the youngest world champion aged 20.

    3

Mike Tyson was interviewed by American actor Kenan Thompson

And while he enjoyed moments at the top of game, he also hit rock bottom when his reputation was tarnished after being charged with a rape conviction.
Tyson, 54, spent three years in jail before returning to the ring in 1995 where he reclaimed his WBC title belt from Frank Bruno.
He had 58 fights in total, winning 50 of those including 44 by knockout.
But in a candid interview with comedian and actor Kenan Thompson, Tyson revealed how anybody could take one of his punches if they were mentally prepared for it.

He said: “What is a normal person? It has nothing to do with being an athletic person, it’s about your morale. Fighting has a lot to do with morality too.
“It’s not about taking it, it’s the willingness to die, that’s what life is. When you stand up to it you no longer have to fear it.”
    ‘I’M NERVOUS NOW’
Tyson, formally one of the most feared men on the planet, also revealed how his biggest battle was trying to deal with his nerves before each fight.
He added: “I never thought I could handle being a fighter. It just was. I’ve never been able to handle it.

“You always get nervous. I’m nervous now. That’s just part of life. I believe from my experience that the feeling is a natural defence mechanism.
“You rise to the occasion or you freeze. You learn to deal with that.”
Tyson’s career took yet another twist in 1997 when he famously bit off the ear of rival Evander Holyfield.
And 15 years on from his last professional bout, the Baddest Man on the Planet will step back inside the squared circle on September 12 to take part in an eight-round exhibition bout.

WBC demand Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr fight rules change to bring in headgear and 18oz gloves for fighters’ own safety

THE WBC has urged Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr to wear headgear and 180z gloves for their exhibition bout amid fears for their safety.
The two boxing legends have signed for an eight-rounder on September 12, sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC).

    2

    2

Jones and Tyson will not wear headgear for the bout
And though they have been warned to avoid knockouts, both will box in 12oz gloves and no head guards.
It has led to concerns from the WBC – who have nothing to do with the bout – but want to see extra safety measures put in place for the fighters, who have a combined age of 105.
World Boxing News reports WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman as saying: “Both Tyson and Jones should wear headgear that boxers use in sparring.
“They should also wear 16, or even 18-ounce gloves.

“This event is a charity initiative that is highly appreciated and seeks to give sports fans a moment of entertainment.
“That is why the World Boxing Council fully supports the realisation of it. But I repeat, in no way can the safety of the contenders be neglected.
“I am certain that the California State Athletic Commission is taking every single provision to ensure their safety before and during the event.”
Despite CSAC Andy Foster pleading with the headliners to pull their punches, Jones knows the commission “can’t control” the feared puncher and will treat the bout like any of his other 75.

Whyte vs Dubois, Joyce vs Chisora, Yarde vs Buatsi – Frank Warren challenges Eddie Hearn to cross-stable battle

FRANK WARREN and BT Sport have offered out Eddie Hearn and Sky Sports for the biggest cross-company battle in British boxing history.
The Queensberry boss and his broadcasters challenged Matchroom and their TV partners to two five-fight shows that pit the best of each stable against the other.

    4

Warren’s team would pit heavyweight sensation Dubois against Hearn’s Dillian Whyte
Star names from Warren’s team — including heavyweight sensation Daniel Dubois, light-heavy star Anthony Yarde and middleweight machine Liam Williams — have been offered up to Hearn’s Dillian Whyte, undefeated Joshua Buatsi and American WBO champ Demetrius Andrade.
Hall of Fame promoter Warren believes the sensational showdowns are the perfect way to repay fight fans who have missed out on four months of boxing.
Warren told SunSport: “I haven’t thrown the gauntlet down.
“I have slung a suit of armour at them and said, ‘Let’s do it!’.

“To make this work you need two promotional companies and two promotional stables. We are on board, we are up for it, it’s just down to them.
“Like BT, Sky will want to give their subscribers the best and in BT they have a friendly company to deal with — plus they already share a number of sports well.

Everyone’s a winner in this. I think my guys will beat all of their guys and I’m sure their side will feel the same. It will be the biggest thing in British boxing history.
    Frank Warren

British boxing fans, this is a promise from Queensberry Promotions:This CAN happen ✅These fights CAN be made ✅Don’t take no for an answer ❌ https://t.co/r2k8bDy3Jn
    — Frank Warren (@frankwarren_tv) August 4, 2020

“There is no reason why they could not do the same for boxing.
“Everyone’s a winner in this. I think my guys will beat all of their guys and I’m sure their side will feel the same.

“There will be bookies’ favourites and upsets.
“This will be the most exciting time to be a British boxing fan — if they accept.
“It will be the biggest thing in British boxing history.
“For the two channels and promoters to cooperate on a 50-50 show would be the biggest thing ever.”

    Queensbuy vs Matchroom

Frank Warren has his say on some of the potential crossover fights…

    DANIEL DUBOIS vs JOE JOYCE
The winner will face Dillian Whyte. I think my unbeaten heavyweights Joe and Daniel have the beating of him. Whoever loses on October 24 meets Derek Chisora — and what better opponent to bounce back against.
    LIAM WILLIAMS vs DEMETRIUS ANDRADE
This WBO middleweight world title is the only international fight on the list. It’s the fight Liam and Andrade want.
    ANTHONY YARDE vs JOSH BUATSI
I fancy Anthony in this light-heavyweight battle with Buatsi because that narrow loss to Sergey Lovalev has given him the edge of experience. He was ten seconds away from being a world champ by beating a monster.
    NATHAN GORMAN vs DAVE ALLEN
Dave has been on some big shows and lost a few fights, so this should appeal to him. Nathan is on the comeback trail. It looks at ideal fight for both heavyweights.
    ARCHIE SHARP vs ZELFA BARRETT
I know a lot of neutrals would see this super- featherweight bout as 50-50 but I have to back Archie. We tried to make it happen when Zelfa was under contract with us.
    JAMES METCALF vs ANTHONY FOWLER
Middleweight Metcalf is 21-0 now and people will want to avoid him. Fowler is 12-1 so doesn’t have that 0 to protect.
    CHRIS JENKINS vs CONOR BENN
Conor doesn’t usually fight anyone with a pulse but, in fairness to him and his team, they did ask about this fight a while ago but we couldn’t agree terms. Now would be the perfect time to put this British welterweight title fight in the mix.
    CHARLIE EDWARDS vs KAL YAFAI
I’ve read Charlie and Kal didn’t get on during their Team GB days. Charlie has a score to settle and Kal thinks he is the better super-flyweight. Let’s see.

Warren and Hearn have no working relationship despite being the two dominant UK figures in the sport.
But the rival firms have shared centre stage before and Warren has done deals with Eddie’s father, Barry — who founded the Matchroom empire — for almost four decades.
And Warren, 68, would happily deal with his fellow pensioner to give the new generation of fight fans a glimpse of the glory days they enjoyed.
He said: “I grew up watching the ‘Four Kings’ all fight each other: Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler, Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard. We can make that happen now for British fighters — we can do our very best version of it.
“People think that me and the Hearns could not work together but we have before and could again.
“Eddie is still working Barry’s money and I don’t care who I have to deal with to get this done.

I don’t think anyone actually gives a s*** what Eddie owns or promotes and I’m sure it is the same for me. Fans care about the fighters and the fights
    Frank Warren

“I have known Barry for around 35 years. We were even partners in snooker in the early days, so I know him very well and would have no problem working with either of them.
“Eddie is saying he wants to own and control boxing, like the UFC do with MMA but that is very unhealthy.
“Monopolies in sport and business are very bad, competition is essential.
“I don’t think anyone actually gives a s*** what Eddie owns or promotes and I’m sure it is the same for me. Fans care about the fighters and the fights — and we can make it happen.
“It’s not about me and Queensberry or Matchroom and Eddie Hearn. It is about giving the British boxing fans what they are craving. Let’s get it on.
“We cannot stage the international fights we would like to because of the travel restrictions, and these — apart from one — are domestic fights.
“These are big-money fights, not cheap jobs, and the fans deserve them.

Watch Mike Tyson floor Corey Sanders and bully him around ring in last exhibition fight to pay off debts back in 2006

MIKE TYSON is on the verge of making a sensational comeback – but will hope it proves more successful than his last exhibition fight.
Tyson, who was a year into his retirement, announced he would be competing in a series of exhibition bouts against his former sparring partner Corey Sanders in 2006.

    3

Mike Tyson boxed Corey Sanders in a 2006 exhibition

    3

Sanders was floored in the first minute
The heavyweight legend was deep in financial stress and would use the box office bonanza to pay off debts.
Tyson, who was already putting on public workouts in front of 2,000 fans at the time, boxed Sanders in Ohio.
He came to the ring without a head guard, though Sanders did wear one, while both had vests on.
The pair warned they would “hold back” to prevent an early stoppage to the “show”.

But 20 seconds into the bout Tyson floored Sanders after a quick combination, which promoted the referee to call an 8-count.
In the same opening round Iron Mike landed a perfectly timed right hand over the top almost dropping Sanders again.
But as Tyson landed the punch he actually helped keep his opponent from going down.

The youngest heavyweight champion of all time kept up the beating until the fourth and final round, hammering Sanders with hooks.

But much of the 6,000 paying fans fumed at the lethargic tempo, not even similar to a sparring session.
It was the last time Tyson laced up the gloves, but 14 years later he is preparing to make another comeback.
He has signed to face former four-weight champion Roy Jones Jr, 51, in an eight-round exhibition.
But the circumstances have changed since 2006.
Tyson insists he will stand to make nothing for the fight, instead donating the proceedings to charity.

Tyson Fury trains with brutal cross country runs alongside stable-mates as Brit king prepares for Deontay Wilder trilogy

TYSON FURY was spotted training with brutal cross country runs as he continues to prepare for his trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder.
The Gypsy King was pictured out for the gruelling run alongside fellow boxers Bob Howard and Isaac Lowe.

    4

Tyson Fury was seen training intensely as he prepares for his triology fight against Deontay Wilder
The trio were thought to be out in Morecambe, which Fury made his permanent home back in 2011.
His trainer Howard ran Lancaster Boys’ Club for two decades, and then Lancaster Boxing Club for a further five years.
The 51-year-old, who worked with the Gypsy King’s cousins Phil and Hughie, also trained Lowe who joined the pair on the run.
WBC International Featherweight champ Lowe, another Morecambe resident, featured on the undercard of Fury vs Schwarz.

The Gypsy King was out on a cross country run alongside his trainer and fellow boxer Isaac Lowe
He previously fought before his fellow Brit’s bout against vs Fury at the Staples Center in Los Angeles last year.
Fury is keeping sharp ahead of his third clash with Wilder after battering the American into his first ever loss in February.
The WBC heavyweight world champion was training up to FOUR times a day during lockdown to stay sharp ahead of boxing’s return.
The 6ft 9in star, who once did 700 sit ups in an Instagram workout, is now back to more traditional methods after returning from Marbella.

Fury is gearing up for a busy 12 months after revealing that he had agreed to two fights against Anthony Joshua in 2021.
AJ is expected to defend his titles against Bulgarian veteran Kubrat Pulev next in December.
While Wilder’s camp recently confirmed they would not be stepping aside to allow the all-British showdown to occur at an earlier date.

Anthony Joshua vs Kubrat Pulev set for December but ‘very strong chance’ of being without fans, admits Eddie Hearn

ANTHONY JOSHUA will defend his three world heavyweight titles against IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev in the first week of December – probably behind closed doors.
That’s according to Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, who still hopes to hold Brit AJ’S bout with the Bulgarian 39-year-old at London’s O2 Arena.

“But it’s still not a gimme at all. There’s still a very strong chance that AJ will have to fight behind closed doors.”
Joshua’s initial date of facing rank outsider Pulev at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on June 20 was ditched due to the coronavirus pandemic.
And Hearn said of The 02: “Their regulations comply with the government, so at the moment they’re closed.
