Mike Tyson boxing comeback IN DOUBT as Roy Jones Jr threatens to pull out in row over delay

ROY JONES JR has threatened to pull OUT of Mike Tyson’s comeback fight after it was delayed until November.
The pair signed to an eight-round exhibition bout to be held on September 12.

Roy Jones Jr has threatened to pull out of Mike Tyson’s comeback fight following a row over the delay

    2

Tyson will now make his comeback on November 28
But social media app Triller, who have the pay-per-view rights for the spectacle, announced it would be postponed 11 weeks to November 28.
And now Jones, 51, has taken legal action and warned if he is not compensated for earnings lost then he could walk away from the event.
He told the Daily Mail: “We’re trying to figure something out, my lawyers is (sic) talking with their lawyers, trying to figure out ways to make it a better situation so that I can compensated for it, that is more beneficial for me to do.’
“If they don’t make it make sense, it (the fight) would be off.

“Why would I change the date and mess up the rest of my year when I agreed to September 12.”
The fight was due to go behind closed doors, with an unnamed but recognised sanctioning body overseeing the bout.

But the delay brought up suggestions organisers are hoping fans will be allowed back into venues to bring in ticket sales.
Jones added: “They said they wanted to get a crowd, if you want to get a crowd, that’s a different type of money.

“If you want a big event, that’s a different type of money.”
Tyson, 54, last fought 15 years ago after announcing retirement in 2005.
Jones, a four-division champion, on the other hand last boxed in 2018 but insisted his income now comes from businesses outside the ring.
And those are now being affected after his ring return was pushed back.

If they don’t make it make sense, it (the fight) would be off.
    Roy Jones Jr

Jones explained: “I’ve had to cancel other stuff to be out here, it’s upset my calendar, I’ve got to change things.
“That’s why we have to table bulls*** now. That’s the biggest issue, I’m not a full time boxer anymore so I do other things to make an income.
“If I can’t do other things then I should be compensated for that, because it changes the schematics. It’s not acceptable.”
Tyson has been training since March ahead of his sensational comeback, but it was only announced in July that he would be facing Jones.
The 51-year-old American does admit the new date could benefit him as it allows more time to prepare.

Mike Tyson, 54, and Roy Jones Jr, 51, were forced to have extra health checks before bout was given OK due to their age

MIKE TYSON and opponent Roy Jones Jr had to undergo a rigorous health check ahead of their exhibition fight later this year.
The two boxing legends signed a deal to lace up the gloves for an eight-round charity bout.

It was scheduled for September 12, but that has been put back to November 28 to give both fighters more time to prepare.
The WBC has urged Tyson, 54, and Jones Jr, 51, to wear headgear and 18oz gloves for the fight amid fears for their safety.
And now Jones Jr has revealed that the California State Athletic Commission imposed a strict health check on both men.
Speaking to World Boxing News about a meeting he had with a boxing official, Jones Jr said: “He wanted to know if I was healthy if I had any illnesses. And was I feeling OK.

“He was more concerned about my health than anything.
“He said he didn’t want nobody leaving hurt. That we’ve both got a physical (exam) to make sure we were fit and healthy.
“They made us go through a couple of extra layers mainly because of our age, but that’s expected.
“I feel good at 51, probably just as good as I felt at 41.”

He better be ready, I’m coming full force
    Mike TysonOn Roy Jones Jr

The pair were due to box under strict orders, prohibiting knockouts and not having judges score the bout.
But now an unnamed but recognised sanctioning body will oversee the fight adopting more familiar rules.
Officials will be ringside scoring and the winner of the exhibition receive a special belt.
Tyson said: “Changing the date to November 28 will give more people the opportunity to see the biggest comeback in boxing history.
“This temporary inconvenience will last longer than Roy Jones Jr.
“He better be ready, I’m coming full force.”
World Boxing News reports WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman as saying: “Both Tyson and Jones should wear headgear that boxers use in sparring.
“They should also wear 16, or even 18-ounce gloves.

Watch Mike Tyson spar and wrestle his 39st TIGER in shocking scenes as big cat plays with deflated basketball

THIS is the incredible moment Mike Tyson was captured wrestling his 39st TIGER.
Iron Mike infamously owned three Bengal tigers – which reportedly cost £48,000 each – with the huge cats adding to his iconic status.

The former heavyweight champion forged a special relationship with the jungle cats

The former ‘Baddest Person on the Planet’ forged a special relationship with the exotic cats – to the point that he’d take them for walks on leads and even play-fight with them.
And footage of Tyson sparring with his white Bengal tiger, Kenya, has resurfaced after he was interviewed as part of the ‘Inside Edition’ programme back in 1996.
The shocking scenes show the former heavyweight champion display his lightening reactions as he wrestles with the wild cat for a basketball it had in his mouth.
The regular tiger fights may explain why Tyson once offered a zookeeper £9,000 to let him tussle with a huge silverback gorilla.

Although Iron Mike recently admitted that he regretted owning three tigers and it was naive of him to think he could tame them because of how dangerous they were.
The boxing legend also recalled how he once had to pay a trespasser £200,000 after one of his exotic animals “f***** up” her hand so badly.
Tyson decided to buy the outlandish pets after sparking up a conversation with a car dealer during his three-year prison sentence, for a 1992 sexual assault conviction.
The 53-year-old is making an incredible comeback in an exhibition bout for charity.

He is set to face Roy Jones Jr with both legends set to come out of retirement for an intriguing fight.

According to The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger, Pfeifer will not be involved in the scheduled clash that was due to take place at the BT Sport Studio.
He tweeted: “Heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois needs a new opponent for his Aug 29 tune-up ahead of his scheduled fall clash with Joe Joyce.

It remains unclear as to why the 33-year-old German has pulled out of his bout against Dubois.
Dubois is keen to get some rounds in before his expected October 24 domestic dust-up against Joe Joyce.
And the 22-year-old has even stated he is ready to knock out Dillian Whyte should he beat Joyce.

Anthony Joshua will fight Dillian Whyte before Tyson Fury in unification bout if Gypsy King dodges WBC mandatory defence

ANTHONY JOSHUA will fight Dillian Whyte before Tyson Fury if the Gypsy King dodges his WBC mandatory defence.
The WBC said the winner of Fury’s third fight against Deontay Wilder must make a mandatory defence against the holder of the diamond belt, currently Whyte.

If Tyson Fury dodges Dillian Whyte then he will slop down Anthony Joshua’s pecking orderCredit: Rex Features
But Whyte could lose his world title shot with defeat to Alexander Povetkin in Eddie Hearn’s final fight camp on Saturday.
And if Fury prevails against The Bronze Bomber in their contractually-obliged trilogy fight, there is a good chance he could side-step a title fight with Whyte.
However, Hearn warned the Gypsy King any such move would NOT help him secure a big-money showpiece with Joshua.
And now the promoter has confirmed that IF Fury gives up his belt – AJ will take on his old foe Whyte for the chance to unify the division.

Hearn told Sky Sports: “All Joshua wants is the WBC title.
“If Fury does not want to fight Whyte, then Whyte will be elevated to champion from ‘interim’ champion.
“What will happen? Joshua will fight Whyte straight away for the undisputed championship.”
Joshua and Whyte have clashed twice before and the Jamaica-born fighter has been the WBC’s No1 ranked challenger since 2017 but only last year became mandatory.

Dillian Whyte roars ‘let’s go baby’ as WBC reveals Diamond belt Brit will fight Alexander Povetkin for at Fight Camp

DILLIAN WHYTE has the WBC Diamond belt on his mind ahead of his bout against Alexander Povetkin on Saturday.
The prestigious strap is on offer at Matchroom’s Fight Camp as well as the chance to face Tyson Fury or Deontay Wilder next.

And WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has taken to Twitter to post a video of the belt Whyte and Povetkin are competing for.
The faces of both boxers are showcased on the belt, with the United Kingdom flag next to Whyte, 32, and the Russian flag next to Povetkin, 40.
Sulaiman’s tweet got the seal of approval from the Body Snatcher, who was quick to comment on the post.
He simply roared: “Let’s go baby.”

Whyte is looking to win his 12th consecutive fight since losing against Anthony Joshua in 2015.
Povetkin’s last defeat also came at the hands of Joshua, who stopped him in the seventh round of their world title clash in September 2018.
    WHYTE NOISE
And ahead of the fight, promoter Eddie Hearn has ripped into Povetkin’s ‘rascal clobber’ after his team touched down in England.
Such is the fear that the two men could fight before the weekend, Whyte could end up staying in a Winnebago this week.

Hearn revealed: “We are looking at the possibility of hiring a Winnebago and parking it in the private area that we have in the hotel car park because I don’t think it’s safe for Whyte to be around Povetkin in fight week.
“If we don’t separate these guys they will be rolling down the hill towards the A12.
“It is a serious, serious point I’m making to the British Boxing Board of Control. We need to make sure those two are separated and segregated.

‘Iron’ Mike Tyson wanted to fight Michael Jordan at a dinner party, says boxing star’s former manager

MIKE TYSON once threatened to beat up Michael Jordan over their romantic history with the same woman, the boxer’s former manager has claimed.
The former Baddest Man on the Planet, 54, who will make his comeback against Roy Jones Jr on September 12.

Mike Tyson (right) was arguably at his peak when sidling up to Michael Jordan (left)
But ahead of his comeback, Rory Holloway has revealed what happened when Tyson when he attended a birthday dinner for Chicago Bears star Richard Dent in 1988.
Plenty of famous faces were at the December bash, including Jordan, boxing promoter Don King and Bears coach Mike Ditka.
Tyson was in his pomp with an undefeated record and unified title to his name –  it was a point in his life when he was also known for decadent and lavish partying.
But it was Jordan’s history with Robin Givens, Tyson’s ex-wife who the NBA legend had previously dated, that brought about the tension.

Holloway wrote in his book chronicling the boxer’s career, via BoxingScene: “Mike Tyson’s sitting there with his drink of choice, a Long Island Tea, and when he drinks his real feelings come out.
“I’m telling the server to water his drinks down because I see where this is going.

Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this.”

“Mike stares across the table at Michael Jordan. He says, ‘Hey man, you think I’m stupid? I know you f***** with my b****.’
“Jordan looks like he just seen a ghost. ‘I know you messed with her,’ Mike says. ‘You can tell me.’

“Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this. Mike turns to Ditka. ‘Man, you think somebody scared of you, all that racist s*** you been talking?’
“He says to Dent, ‘Y’all scared of this damn white man, Richard? He ain’t nobody. You gonna let him talk that way?’
