Dillian Whyte’s coach reveals incredible reaction to shock Povetkin KO that left him asking ‘What’s happened?’

DILLAIN WHYTE’S trainer was left asking ‘what’s happened?’ after Alexander Povetkin’s shock knockout.
Whyte, 32, had twice floored the Russian in round four but was dramatically stopped in the fifth following a perfect left uppercut.

Alexander Povetkin knocked out Dillian Whyte

It was the heavyweight contender’s first fight with Xavier Miller as head trainer.
And Miller was left stunned after their early lead was cancelled out following the earth-shattering shot.
He told Boxing UK: “It was such a shock – that’s not the first thing that went through my mind.
“The first thing that went through my mind was, ‘what’s happened?’

“You don’t expect to be in that sort of situation when you’ve just got two knockdowns and the fights going your way.
“That’s the last thing anybody’s thinking is going to happen. That’s the very last thing.”
Whyte’s first loss since 2015 marked the end of his run as WBC mandatory challenger.
He was in line to face champion Tyson Fury, 32, next year but will now need to enact revenge on Povetkin, 41, to win back his right to fight for the title.

Watch moment Tyson Fury enlists BAGPIPE PLAYER to help find WWE rival Drew McIntyre after ‘looking all over Edinburgh’

THIS is the hilarious moment Tyson Fury enlists a BAGPIPE PLAYER to help him track down WWE rival Drew McIntyre.
World heavyweight boxing champion Fury has been angling for a bout with WWE title holder McIntyre after making his debut with the organisation last October in a victory over Braun Strowman.

And he went all the way to the wrestler’s home city of Edinburgh in a bid to get a deal done.
However, Fury searched high and low but could not find his foe.
And the self-styled Gypsy King then took to Twitter with a message for McIntyre – accompanied by a bagpipe player in full kilt and Scottish regalia.
Fury boomed: “I’m here, this is a challenge video to Drew McIntyre from the Gypsy King.

“He’s here in Edinburgh, I’ve been looking all over for you Drew.
“Where are you Drew? I’ve been looking all over, all day, and I can’t see you.
“You’re hiding from me Drew, hiding. Come out and fight like a proper man, like a Highland man.
“Here I am, in your own city, and you’re nowhere to be seen.

But even though he fancies building on his WWE debut at Saudi Arabia’s Jewel In The Crown, Fury must first focus on a trilogy fight against Deontay Wilder.

Joshua urges Fury to retire ‘soon’ and insists he WILL face him and Wilder… but ‘won’t be biggest names on my record’

ANTHONY JOSHUA urged Tyson Fury to consider retirement ‘soon’ but wants to face him first – and then take on Deontay Wilder.
Fury, 32, turned professional in 2008 – around the time Joshua first picked up the boxing gloves – and is unbeaten in 31 fights.

Joshua wants to face Fury and Deontay Wilder
The WBC champion has already agreed a two-fight deal for next year with 30-year-old WBA, IBF and WBO title holder AJ.
But Joshua, who made his debut in the pro ranks a year after winning gold at the 2012 London Olympics, warned the unification needs to happen sooner rather than later.
He told Sky Sports: “Fury has been professional much longer than me. He should be looking to retire soon.
“If he wants to cement his legacy, I’m here and ready. I’ve built myself into this position.

“I came up quick. That shows I’m ready.
“These boys turned professional in 2008 and it took [Fury seven years] to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world.
“He’s on a completely different journey. I want to steam through.”
Joshua needs to first beat Kubrat Pulev, 39, in December before focussing on unifying the division.

But Joshua still plans to fight Wilder having failed to agree terms for an undisputed title decider in the past.
And AJ – who has beaten Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker and Joseph Parker – does not believe the Bronze Bomber or Fury provide his career toughest test.
He explained: “I’ll challenge Fury, I’ll challenge Wilder.
“These guys aren’t the biggest names that I’ve fought on my record anyway. They are just another heavyweight.

Eddie Hearn planning to get fans back to boxing with Joshua Buatsi show this month to set up Joshua vs Pulev arena fight

EDDIE HEARN has launched his bid to bring fans back to British boxing.
The Matchroom promoter just held a thrilling four weeks of action behind closed doors in the gardens of his Essex office, to comply with Government Covid-19 guidelines.

    2

Eddie Hearn could run his first trial boxing event with fans back inside the venue by having Joshua Buatsi as headlinerCredit: News Group Newspapers Ltd
And Hearn believes his Sunday September 27 show, headlined by light-heavyweight ace Joshua Buatsi, is the perfect chance to get bums back on seats.
And – if the London show proves another success – it will pave the way for Anthony Joshua and Kubrat Pulev to have a money-spinning live gate in mid-December.
He said: “We have applied to the Government for a pilot event with however many fans any might approve.
“It only be 500 or 1,000 but by October – all being well with no spikes or anything like that – we think that’s when real crowds will start coming back in.”

Hearn expects to take his lead from the Premier League once it resumes on September 12.
But he knows the winter chill and guaranteed rain will make boxing’s comeback more d-icy.
Hearn added: “We will follow on from the football but, because we will have to go inside for the rest of our shows, the guidelines will be different.
“Like the darts, the shows will be at night and supporters like to have a beer, a cuddle and a sing-song when they watch.

Deontay Wilder could fight Oleksandr Usyk for new WBC ‘super-cruiserweight’ title at 220lbs weight class

DEONTAY WILDER could fight Oleksandr Usyk for a new WBC super-cruiserweight belt, according to Tony Bellew.
The Liverpool born former cruiserweight champ has been put in charge of a WBC committee tasked with exploring the potential new weight class.

    3

Deontay Wilder could face Oleksandr Usyk in a new WBC weight class

    3

The Ukrainian could face the Bronze Bomber for a super-cruiserweight belt Credit: PA:Press Association
And he reckons Usyk, 33, and the Bronze Bomber. 34, would be a perfect match.
At the WBC convention last month Bellew was charged with leading an investigation into Don Majeski’s proposal to form a new weight class between cruiserweight and heavyweight.
As things stand, the top three divisions are light-heavyweight (175lbs), cruiserweight (200lbs) and heavyweight (200lbs+).
Bellew competed in all three but reckons there is room for one more.

He told talkSPORT Fight Night: “I actually like the divisions going from 175lbs up to 190lbs [instead of 200lbs].
“That will make it a bit better for the guys who are struggling at light-heavyweight, but are not monster cruiserweights.
“Then, if I had my way, I would go from 190lbs to 220lbs. You’re looking at the ‘small heavyweights’.
“I would’ve fallen into that category quite comfortably, Usyk falls into that category quite comfortably.

“Wilder falls into that category quite comfortably, David Haye falls into that category quite comfortably.
“This weight class we’re looking to bring in is the perfect thing and if I had complete control of something like this, the first match-up I would look to do would be Deontay Wilder vs Oleksandr Usyk for the belt.
“It’s an amazing fight, the division would be relevant immediately with a fight of that magnitude.”
Bellew added: “I am a fighter who fought obviously at light-heavyweight.
“I boiled down to that weight category and then jumped up immediately and went to cruiserweight.
“I’ve done it, so I understand how tough the weight jump is.

    3

Tony Bellew is leading a committee to investigate a new WBC weight class
“The difference in all the other weight categories is minimal – 4lbs, 3lbs, sometimes 6lbs.
“The weight jump from light-heavyweight to cruiserweight is from 175lbs to 200lbs – that’s 25lbs.
“That’s just too much, I get what Majeski’s saying because in the current game at heavyweight the big boys are too big and the smaller heavyweights are not able to compete with the bigger boys.
“As great as some of them are – the likes of Usyk – it’s looked at now that he’s not going to be able to compete with the monsters.
“Not because of his boxing ability, purely because of his size.”
The idea of a new weight class was raised by the WBC before with super-heavyweight also suggested.

But fans slammed the idea insisting the iconic heavyweight division must remain boxing’s greatest prize.
Bellew agreed: “You can’t mess around, you can’t have a ‘super-heavyweight’ in boxing.
“There’s one heavyweight division, that’s all there should ever be, you can’t go messing around with the names of them.
“People say, ‘Well, what would you call it?’
“I would say you go to cruiserweight [at 190lbs] and maybe ‘super-cruiserweight’ [at 220lbs].
“Something of that ilk. You can’t ever have a ‘super-heavyweight’ division, it’s not reasonable, it’s ridiculous.”
