Oleksandr Usyk bizarrely calls out Derek Chisora while CANOEING as he targets October 31 showdown with Brit boxer

UKRAINIAN puncher Oleksandr Usyk bizarrely called out Derek Chisora… while out CANOEING.
The 6ft 3in heavyweight was supposed to take on “War” at the O2 back in March.

    2

Oleksandr Usyk took to his canoe as he called out Chisora

But the coronavirus pandemic swiftly KO’d those plans, with promoter Eddie Hearn now targeting an October 31 bout between the pair.
And ahead of the much-anticipated fight Usyk, 33, is aiming to get ahead in the mind games.
He took to Instagram to post a video of himself calling out Chisora’s name.
While riding a canoe in the late-summer sunshine, Usyk screamed “Derek”, while Tina Turner’s “The Best” played in the background.

The former cruiserweight champ then rowed off into the distance.
Usyk is certainly unwinding between training sessions in a very different way to Chisora, who was spotted riding an electric bike around Mayfair this week.
The October 31 meeting between WBO mandatory challenger Usyk and Chisora, 36, could be under threat from new government regulations limiting gatherings of more than six.
Hearn plans to have the pair meet at the O2 in front of a limited crowd.

Dereck Chisora spends day out riding electric bike around Mayfair as ‘War’ prepares for Oleksandr Usyk showdown

DERECK CHISORA spent the day out riding an electric bike around Mayfair as he prepares to face Oleksandr Usyk.
The heavyweight, 36, was meant to fight former cruiserweight king Usyk, 33, in March.

The day out comes as Chisora prepares to face Oleksandr Usyk

But the coronavirus pandemic KO’d the headliner, much to the frustration of both fighters.
‘War’ Chisora has trained throughout as he awaits his new fight date, but took a short break to ride around on an electric bike in London.
Promoter Eddie Hearn had planned to have WBO mandatory challenger Usyk face Chisora on October 31 at the O2 in front of a limited crowd.
He told Sky Sports: “Dereck is training really hard.

“October 31st is the date we have penciled in for that fight, but it’s dependent on the current deal driving people through the doors and having some kind of gate or moving it internationally and having a site fee.”
Hearn applied to the Government for a pilot boxing event with fans, after his banner held a snooker tournament with 300 people present in August.
But the Government’s latest restrictions limiting social gatherings to no more than six people has pushed back the return of British boxing fans.
Dillian Whyte, 32, was forced to fight Alexander Povetkin, 41, behind closed doors – where he suffered an upset knockout defeat.

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder trilogy set for December 19 with 10,000 to 15,000 fans at new 65,000 £1.5bn Raiders Stadium

BOB ARUM is ‘optimistic’ Tyson Fury will face Deontay Wilder on December 19 with 10,000 to 15,000 fans at new 65,000 capacity Raiders Stadium.
Fury, 32, dethroned 34-year-old Wilder of the WBC belt in February and handed the American his first career loss.

Bob Arum is ‘optimistic’ Fury will face Wilder with 10,000 to 15,000 fans at new 65,000 capacity Raiders Stadium

The pair – who drew their initial bout in December 2018 – had already pre-signed for a trilogy which has been pushed back to the end of year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Fury’s US promoter Arum told ESPN they are pushing to fill almost a quarter of the new £1.5billion Raiders Stadium in Las Vegas.
He said: “That’s what we’re moving ahead on, on all fronts, with the security, with the virus, and everything.
“We’re talking with everybody here in town, with the Raiders.

“So we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to do the event in Nevada, in Las Vegas.”
Arum previously claimed China and Australia – on Christmas Day – are wildcard alternatives for the immediate rematch.
Their second fight sold 17,698 tickets earlier this year, breaking the record for biggest gate at a heavyweight fight.
But since the return of boxing, all fights have taken place behind closed doors.

Matchroom prospect Johnny Fisher can be a modern day Gene Tunney thanks to brainy heavyweight’s degree

IT is possible British boxing is about to welcome a modern-day Gene Tunney.
Intellectual Tunney beat Jack Dempsey to win the world heavyweight title in 1926 and he retired undefeated.

    2

But the American was not exactly a fan favourite because he preferred the company of scholars to the bent-nose brigade.
A student of Shakespeare, he was close to writers Ernest Hemingway and George Bernard Shaw, who he used to correspond with regularly.
Johnny Fisher is out of the same mould.
Another 6ft 5in, 17stone giant, he is an Exeter University graduate who has just signed a multi-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom outfit.

Johnny’s only been with me a month but though he is a complete novice I’m already excited. I can see he has the potential and the dedication to get to the top
    Johnny Fisher’s trainer Mark Tibbs

The Romford lad, 21, has decided on a boxing career despite getting a 2:1 history degree which has meant shelving his original ambition to be a barrister.
Fisher, whose thesis was on the aerial bombing campaign on Germany in World War Two, reckons if he had not sacrificed his final term sparring with Joe Joyce in Las Vegas, he would have ended up with a First Class honours degree.
With no amateur experience to speak of, Fisher admits when it comes to the Noble Art he is raw.
A schoolboy and junior ABA champion, he has set out prematurely as a pro because the pandemic has decimated amateur boxing for the last six months.

With his academic background he fully understands the mammoth undertaking it will take to reach the heights.
His trainer Mark Tibbs, who did such a brilliant job getting Dillian Whyte to be a top contender, told me: “Johnny’s only been with me a month but though he is a complete novice I’m already excited.
“I can see he has the potential and the dedication to get to the top.
“For one thing he is a tremendous puncher.
“Every time I take him on the pads he’s ripping my arms out and my shoulders are killing me.
“Because he is so intelligent he’s going to be a quick learner.

If Daniel Dubois can become British and Commonwealth champion with such a limited amateur background there’s no reason why I can’t do the same
    Johnny Fisher

“But he knows we have a tremendous amount to do before he hopefully makes his debut before the end of the year. Fisher said: “I’ve only been boxing seriously for 18 months and in every walk of life experience is vitally important.
“But if Daniel Dubois can become British and Commonwealth champion with such a limited amateur background there’s no reason why I can’t do the same.”
Hearn said: “When I got the call about a big, strong talented heavyweight from Romford I was already sold.
“The domestic heavyweight scene is thriving with a host of prospects looking to break through.
“And Johnny has the raw power to become a real problem.
“I’m looking forward to mapping out his career. He’s going to be a fans’ favourite.” So just how much of a man of letters was Tunney.
When he beat the legendary Dempsey, he was asked how it felt at winning the title.

Anthony Joshua is ‘contemplating’ skipping Kubrat Pulev fight but Bulgarian’s team threaten to SUE Eddie Hearn

ANTHONY JOSHUA is “contemplating” skipping his heavyweight showdown with Kubrat Pulev, according to the Bulgarian’s promoter.
AJ is due to face Pulev in December in their rearranged fight with the WBA, IBF and WBO belts on the line.

    2

But Ivaylo Gotzev revealed Joshua and his Matchroom managers are thinking about pulling out to focus on facing Tyson Fury instead.
And Pulev’s right-hand man insisted if they do indeed try to call off the fight – originally scheduled for June at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – they would take legal action by suing Eddie Hearn’s firm.
Gotzev told Press Box PR: “That’s something that they have always contemplated at their end. But that door will be closed with a lawsuit if they break our deal and our contract.
“There are some very good attorneys in England and some very fair courts, so it will come down to whether they want to decide whether they want that or not.

“I do believe AJ and his promoter will do the right thing and do as they say and finalise the deal.
“Through blood sweat and tears Kubrat earned his position to challenge AJ.
“Will they overrule his rights, can they all overrule his rights? That’s entirely up to them if they want to try that.
“They should respect the rules of the IBF. There’s a signed agreement.

And he was set to take on the 39-year-old Pulev whose only pro defeat in 29 fights came against Wladimir Klitschko in November 2014.

“We’re going for the knockout. Kubrat is a man’s man. He has heart, skill. talent and he’s going to upset the apple cart. The question is: is AJ a man or is he still a mama’s boy?
