Alen ‘The Savage’ Babic reduced to tears by mentor Dillian Whyte’s shock KO loss to Povetkin

ALEN BABIC admits mentor Dillian Whyte’s savage KO loss drove him to tears.
Whyte was so impressed with the Croatian’s spirit and strength in just five rounds of 2019 sparring that he signed him up to his management stable on the spot.

    2

British heavyweight star Dillian Whyte was stunned by a Povetkin uppercut

‘The Savage’ enjoyed an eye-catching KO win on Whyte’s Alexander Povetkin undercard on August 22 but was gutted when the Russian veteran put his pal to sleep in the fifth of the main event.
Whyte has not let the shock loss affect his stable, getting his favourite ex-bouncer on another Sky Sports show this Sunday in Milton Keynes.
And Babic will thank his boss with brutal practice rounds ahead of the November 21 rematch.
“I had a tear in my eye that night but I know that Dillian is a beast and he will be back, no problem”, Babic said ahead of his clash with Niall Kennedy.

“Dillian has reacted in the best possible way, jumping into the rematch and I love that he is not afraid.
“We do eight round spars all the time and he is such a hard hitter, he hits you with f****** everything.
“As soon as I get out of here I will head to Portugal to help with his training camp and give him everything I have.”

Babic intends to blitz his respected Irish opponent at the Marshall Arena inside the MK Dons stadium and he hopes Whyte does the same next month.

The 32-year-old Brixton ace dropped Povetkin twice in the fourth but paid the price for not going in for the kill, a gameplan no-nonsense Babic did not agree with.
“I didn’t like that and I told Dillian and his coach Xavier,” he said. “You cannot box an Olympic champion, you smash them with power and strength.
“Dillian has massive raw power but he waited to use it and that was enough for Povetkin to use his skill and experience in that split second.
“But Dillian has told him he will be more of a savage in this fight and that is what I think he has to do.”

Deontay Wilder officially DUMPS Mark Breland for Tyson Fury trilogy fight after coach threw in the towel in battering

DEONTAY WILDER has ditched trainer Mark Breland as he gears up for his third fight with Tyson Fury.
The Bronze Bomber was battered by the Gypsy King in February – and Breland threw in the towel.

But Wilder has now announced he has dumped his fellow American as he looks for fresh input for the third contest between the pair.
Wilder is set to fight Fury next year at the LA Raiders’ NFL ground in Los Angeles, California, at a date yet to be confirmed.
His tactics were totally wrong for the second clash with the Mancunican.
He looked a shadow of the man who put down Fury in their first fight, which ended in a draw.

Wilder held the WBC heavyweight title for five years from 2015 to this year.
Breland has been in the 34-year-old’s corner for his entire 12-year professional career.
But Wilder now hope going elsewhere will give him a new direction as he bids to take his WBC title back from the Gypsy King.
Shelly Finkel, Wilder’s co-manager, told BoxingScene yesterday about the shock news.

He said: “That was the decision that was made. After his next fight it will be determined if the right decision was made or not.”

It was Finkel who brought Breland into Wilder’s camp as he was about to turn pro.
Jay Deas, with Wilder at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing when he took bronze, will remain in the American’s corner.
Fury, 32, and Wilder drew in their first fight in December 2018 when the Englishman was knocked down in the 12th with a hammer of a punch – but somehow got up to stay up in the fight.
But he totally outclassed Wilder when they met in February, winning in the seventh round.
Breland was roundly criticised by both Wilder and Deas after throwing in the towel against Fury.
The Bronze Bomber said: “I told all my trainers, no matter how it may look on the outside, no matter how you may love me or have that emotional feeling don’t make an emotional decision and do not ever throw that towel in because my pride is everything. ”
While Deas said: “Deontay is the kind of the guy that goes out on his shield. He will tell you straight up — don’t throw the towel in.”
Fury plans a two-fight battle of Britain with Anthony Joshua.
This could even happen BEFORE the trilogy with Wilder is completed if haggling over a date continues.

De La Hoya announced his return to the ring in 2020, and revealed he has returned to training.
    Bernard Hopkins: 55-8 record
Bernard Hopkins was a physical marvel, a true freak of nature with a skill-set and intelligence that would have allowed him to compete in any era of the sport.

In 2011, he became the oldest man to ever win a world title when at age 46 he defeated Jean Pascal for the WBC light heavyweight titile.
Two years later, Hopkins broke his own record by winning the IBF heavyweight title from Tavoris Cloud at the age of 48.

    Floyd Mayweather Jr: 50-0 record

He is one of the very few boxers to end their career undefeated, going 50-0.
    Mike Tyson: 50-6 record
Arguably the most feared man inside a boxing ring, Mike Tyson was a scary combination of speed and power.
His persona was enough to intimidate anyone and many fighters were defeated before ever stepping foot in the ring.
Nicknamed The Baddest Man on the Planet, Tyson was a force in the heavyweight division during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

He became the youngest boxing heavyweight champion in history at just 20 years of age.
Tyson also became the first man to ever unify the WBC, IBG and WBA heavyweight titles, holding all three at the same time.
    Henry Armstrong: 152-22 record
Henry Armstrong is one of the few fighters in history to simultaneously hold world championships in three different weight divisions.
This was an impressive feat during the 1930s, as there were only eight recognized divisions at the time.
Armstrong took on and defeated many of the notable fighters of the age.

    16

During the 1940s, Henry Armstrong was a triple champion holding the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight titles simultaneously
He won the featherweight title from Petey Sarron in 1937, before quickly jumping up a weight to win the welterweight championship in 1938 after defeating Barney Ross.
Armstrong would go on to defend the welterweight title a record 18 times before dropping it to Fritzie Zivic in 1940.
During his welterweight reign he also captured the lightweight title, which made him a triple champion holding the featherweight, lightweight and welterweight titles simultaneously.
    Joe Louis: 66-3 record
In 1937, Joe Louis was crowned the new lineal heavyweight champion – a title he would hold for 140 months.
Nicknamed The Brown Bomber, Louis’ reign as heavyweight champion was legendary, successfully defending the title a record 25 times.

Known as a power puncher, Louis is often ranked as top on various boxing greats lists, especially as he was the first African-American boxer to achieve mainstream stardom in the US – a country brimming with racism at the time.
Louis is known for a 1936 loss to Max Schmeling, considered the Fight of the Year, and for wins over James Braddock, Billy Conn, Jersey Joe Walcott and a first-round knockout of Schmeling to average his earlier defeat.
Top Four in Boxing Mount Rushmore
    Roberto Duran: 103-16 record
Known as Las Manos de Piedra, or Hands of Stone, Roberto Duran was a trash-talking, aggressive brawler who fought and beat many of the best of his era.
He is considered by many to be the greatest lightweight fighter in history and held world titles across four different weight divisions.

The Panamanian dominated the sport of boxing in a career that spanned five decades with over 100 professional victories.
His career started in 1968 and in 1980, he became the first man to defeat the great Sugar Ray Leonard.
Duran’s most infamous moment came in his second fight with Leonard, where he uttered the words “no mas” (no more in English) to the referee in the eighth round.

At the time, Duran held an astonishing 72-1 record – but in the closing seconds of the eighth round he turned his back to Leonard and quit, which allowed Sugar Ray to regain the WBC welterweight title.
It was soon determined that Leonard led the bout by a small margin of 68-66, 68-66 and 67-66 on the judges scorecards at the time of the TKO.
Duran continued fighting until his retirement in 2001.
    Sugar Ray Leonard: 36-3 record
Sugar Ray Leonard fought the best of his era and beat every single one of them.
His heyday during the 1980s was an era that boasted several high-profile Hall of Famers – yet he still won world championships in five divisions from welterweight to light heavyweight.

    16

His first professional defeat came against Roberto Duran in 1980, where he lost by unanimous decision.
The two ran it back that same year, but this time around Leonard got the win over Duran by TKO – after the Panamanian slugger quit in the eighth round.
He fought and beat Wilfred Benitez, Tommy Hearns, Marvin Hagler and Duran, giving him one of the most impressive resumes in the sport.
    Sugar Ray Robinson: 173-19 record
Sugar Ray Robinson is credited with the creation of the mythical pound-for-pound rankings that today occupy so much of the debate in the boxing world.
Robinson’s run was truly remarkable. During his amateur days he went unbeaten, winning all 85 of his fights.

Into his pro days, he went undefeated until he faced Jake LaMotta in his 41st pro fight. That’s a stretch of 126 straight victories without a defeat.
In 1946, Robinson won the welterweight title and held on to it until he jumped to middleweight and took the belt from LaMotta, avenging his earlier defeat.
Robinson spend two-and-a-half years in retirement after failing to capture the light heavyweight title from Joey Maxim in 1952.
When he returned to the ring, he once again capture the middleweight title, something he’d do five times in his illustrious career.

He fought and beat every boxing great during his era, including Carmen Basillo, Gene Fullmer, Randy Turpin, Carl Olson, Henry Armstrong, Rocky Graziano and Kid Gavilan.
    Muhammad Ali: 56-5 record
Muhammad Ali is the best heavyweight boxer of all time.
Ali fought with a style and flamboyance that made you either love him or hate him, but no matter how you see it nobody could deny his place in boxing history or as a cultural icon.

He later converted to Islam and became a became a target of the US government after refusing to serve in the Vietnam War.
As a result, Ali was stripped of his heavyweight title and did not fight for four years.

Deontay Wilder has ignored all of Tyson Fury’s phone calls since he called him ‘a bit of a big dosser’ on FaceTime

TYSON FURY says Deontay Wilder is ignoring his calls after he called him ‘a bit of a big dosser’ on FaceTime.
The WBC heavyweight champion of the world cast doubt on the trilogy fight happening in December when he spoke on talkSPORT this morning.

    4

Tyson Fury thinks Deontay Wilder was a bit upset after being called a ‘little bit of a dosser’

Fury has been training throughout lockdown – up to five-times-a-day at the start of the pandemic – but Wilder III has been repeatedly postponed.
Now the 32-year-old has perhaps given a reason for radio silence from his American rival.
He said: “I’ve not heard a thing. He took a FaceTime from me in March [after the rematch].
“I called him a bit of a big dosser and then he didn’t answer the phone to me ever again.”

If Wilder does agree to the December rematch, it could be a bumper month for boxing fans.
WBA, WBO and IBF king Anthony Joshua is pencilled in to defend his belts against Kubrat Pulev early that month.
If both Brits come through their respective fights, it could set up a mouthwatering undisputed clash next year.
But Fury fancies having the AJ fight before Christmas if Wilder chickens off.

“Tell AJ to grow a pair and step up to fight in December. If Wilder doesn’t happen then let’s get the AJ fight in December.
“If Wilder doesn’t happen in December then I will step in and smash Anthony Joshua into next week.”

And Joshua has admitted Fury ‘randomly phones him’ to tell him he will ‘knock him out’.
AJ told Behind the Gloves: “He’s an interesting character.
“Tyson will call me randomly on the phone and he will be like, ‘have a little laugh and I will have a little laugh’.
“Then I will say I’m going to knock you out, then he will say ‘shut up I’ll knock you out’.
“That’s just me and Tyson, through and through the respect’s there but we’re fighting men.”
When asked if he and Fury are friends, Joshua was quick to reply: “Not friends, not friends, not friends but there’s a mutual respect there, I respect the man, he’s done his thing.”

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder trilogy moved from December 19 date due to NFL and could be pushed forward to earlier date

PROMOTER Bob Arum has announced Tyson Fury’s trilogy bout against Deontay Wilder will not take place on December 19.
The 88-year-old – who handles the Gypsy King’s affairs in America – has revealed that the loaded college football schedule has played a part in the decision.

And Arum has also stated that two NFL games are due to take place, leaving them with no choice but to reschedule.
Fury’s third fight against Wilder is set to take place at the Allegiant Stadium – home of the Las Vegas Raiders – who face Los Angeles Chargers on December 18.
Speaking to ESPN, Arum said: “We’re moving off [December 19] because there’s five conference championship games that day and night, plus two NFL games.
“So we can’t go with the 19th. We’re looking at other dates right now because ESPN advised us, and Fox advised the PBC [which promotes Wilder].

Arum then stated that the trilogy bout could be staged “a little earlier in December”, with Top Rank planning a card on December 12 that features Miguel Berchelt against Oscar Valdez.
Arum added: “We’re looking at the schedule – PBC, FOX, ESPN and us – to pick a date.”
Despite the new date being discussed, Arum also insisted that the venue will not be changed.
He said: “It’s definitely Allegiant Stadium. The Raiders are on board, the city is on board, the convention authority is on board. Everybody is on board.”

Both Joshua and Fury – who has a trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder to get out the way – have agreed terms on a sensational two-fight deal in 2021.
AJ, 30, first fought professionally in October 2013, a year after winning gold at the 2012 London Olympics.
Fury meanwhile, who is is 14 months older than his Brit rival at 32, first fought professionally in December 2008.
And Joshua believes his rapid rise puts him on a par with Fury despite making his senior bow five years later.

He told Sky Sports: “Remember, he [Tyson Fury] was a heavyweight well before my time. He turned professional in 2008. That was the year I had my first amateur fight!
“I never thought I would catch up to Fury. He was never someone that was on my radar.
“So I’ve never known Tyson until I turned professional and started barking at the heels of these heavyweights who were docile.
“I started bringing some heat. Now they became relevant in my life.

“My relationship with Tyson is only because I progressed as quickly as I did, and he didn’t progress as quickly.”

He’s had two good wins – against Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko

Joshua also took aim at the standard of Fury’s opponents during his career by insisting his rival has not been in enough major fights.
The Gypsy King is undefeated in 31 contests, the highlights featuring his two bouts against Wilder and his 2015 world title clash with Wladimir Klitschko.
Fury has also claimed a double scalp over then-undefeated Dereck Chisora while he has previously revealed his 2013 US debut against Steve Cunningham was his toughest opponent.
AJ meanwhile has also beaten Klitschko while he avenged a first career defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia last December.
In addition, the Watford-born boxer can count victories over Dillian Whyte, Alexander Povetkin and Joseph Parker as well.

And Joshua believes Fury’s list of top-tier opponents should be longer considering his 12-year career.
AJ added: “He’s had two good wins – against Deontay Wilder and Wladimir Klitschko.
“Over a long period of time, a career that has spanned 12 years, I would have liked to have seen him in some more challenging competitions.
“But he knows what is right for him, and I know what is right for me. As a fighter he has done what he needs to do to be in the position he is in today, so good luck to him.”

Dillian Whyte’s mind bigger worry than his chin in Alexander Povetkin rematch after brutal KO loss, warns Eddie Hearn

DILLIAN WHYTE’S mind is a bigger concern than his chin heading into the must-win Alexander Povetkin rematch.
The 32-year-old Brixton ace was cruising to the latest victory of his career against the Russian on August 22 – after scoring two early knockdowns – before a hellish uppercut stunned the Brit in the fifth.

Whyte knows he must beat Povetkin if he wants to fight for a world title in 2021

The fearless fans’ favourite has launched himself into an instant November 21 rematch, in a bid to reclaim his WBC mandatory position.
And promoter Eddie Hearn is more concerned with his charge’s confidence than his punch resistance.
The Matchroom boss told SunSport: “There are two ways to look at it; Dillian controlled the fight and was moments from winning until a one-in-a-million punch stunned him and the chances of that happening again in the rematch are very small.
“Or you can say that Povetkin took two of Dillian’s best shots, got off the floor twice and stopped him with the only real punch he connected with.

“It wasn’t a 12-round war or a prolonged beating so physically Dillian should be fine but the rematch is more about the psychological side.
“Dillian demanded the rematch straight away, no hesitation, because he believes it was just a split second mistake that he can correct.
“But Povetkin also snapped up the rematch because he now thinks he has the beating of Dillian and can pop back over to double his money with another easy night’s work.
“A knockout like that you can physically recover from reasonably quickly. But mentally it can leave a mark on fighters and we will find out on November 21.”

After a six-week break from boxing, Hearn returns this Sunday with a card headlined by light-heavyweight ace Joshua Buatsi.
The 27-year-old, like almost every fighter on the circuit, has had to take a paycut to kickstart his career again and Hearn admits this period has been his biggest challenge in the sport.
He said: “A fighter’s earnings are made up of around 40 per cent of their ticket sales, that is gone for now.
“Where do we find that huge chunk of money? You can’t just get more broadcasting or sponsors because those businesses – like everyone – have bigger priorities right now than sponsoring boxing shows, we have to be realistic.
“We pulled off our Fight Camp shows with great success, outdoor shows in the summer went down a storm. But now we have a very different challenge, probably our biggest one yet and we have to produce the goods again.”

Hearn also believes the coronavirus fall-out might play a part in Anthony Joshua dropping one of his world titles.
At the start of lockdown, Hearn announced he had agreed the financial terms on a two-fight deal between AJ and Tyson Fury.
But now mandatory challenges are mounting up and that potential undisputed decider feels like it is slipping away again.
Hearn said: “AJ has always had one mission and that is to have all four major belts, be undisputed champion, and he only needs the WBC title now to do that.

“But he also wants the biggest fights in the world and, in these uncertain times, if he has to drop one belt to make the Fury fight happen then I think he will consider that now.
“A few months ago I would never have said AJ would even consider relinquishing a title.
“But AJ vs Fury is the biggest fight in boxing, he really wants that fight, and he will go to great lengths to make it happen, if he has to.”
