Derek Chisora set to become WBO mandatory and fight Anthony Joshua if he beats Oleksandr Usyk, confirms David Haye

DEREK CHISORA could be in line for a sensational world title fight against fellow Brit Anthony Joshua if he beats Oleksandr Usyk this weekend.
The Finchley brawler is a big underdog to spring a shock against the Ukrainian at Wembley Arena.

But if Chisora upsets the odds, he is in line to take the WBO mandatory position, according to his trainer David Haye.
That belt is held by Joshua, with Usyk the current mandatory challenger having unified at cruiserweight and stepping up to heavy.
Speaking to iFL TV, Haye explained: “I’ll find out this week. I’ve written a letter to Paco [Valcarcel], the president of the WBO, stating that Derek should be, by beating the mandatory [Usyk], he should become mandatory himself.
“There’s only so many times he can go to the well. If there’s ever a chance for him to get a world title shot, it’s off the back of this victory.

“We believe common sense will prevail and that the WBO, a great organization that Derek has worked closely with for many years, this is his opportunity.
“This is something on the sidelines.”
Joshua has his own business to take care of when he defends his WBO, WBA and IBF world titles against Kubrat Pulev on December 12 in London.
And of course there are the two fights against WBC king Tyson Fury in 2021 that the pair ‘agreed’ at the start of coronavirus lockdown.

But whoever is the WBO mandatory at the end of the weekend could throw a spanner in the works.
And if it is indeed Chisora, it would complete a stunning return to the boxing summit.
The 36-year-old had a first world title shot in 2012 when he fell to a points defeat against Vitali Klitschko.
He has lost nine times in his career, including twice to Fury and once to his now-trainer Haye.
But Chisora has never dodged a fight and was involved in two memorable brawls with fellow Londoner Dillian Whyte – with many believing he was unlucky to lose in the first.

Oleksandr Usyk sets sights on Hollywood career after turning Derek Chisora’s Halloween into horror movie

OLEKSANDR USYK wants to be a film star after casting Derek Chisora in a Halloween horror.
Ukraine’s 2012 Olympic champ and former undisputed cruiserweight king continues his assault on the heavyweight division on Saturday.

A win will tee the WBO’s mandatory challenger up for a shot at WBA, IBF and WBO  champion Anthony Joshua in 2021 — and take him closer  to  emulating American star Evander Holyfield’s  achievement of ruling both top tiers.
Then the father of three will swap belts for the silver screen.
Usyk, 33, has starred in a couple of Ukrainian films and turned down a role in Creed 2 that Sylvester Stallone offered him to focus on a fight.
He said: “I love boxing and I don’t need much rest. I have my wife and three children and plenty to keep me busy.

“I love spending time with my family but I am probably even more relaxed in my  training camps.
“As long as I am motivated to get up at 5am to train and work hard, I will box.
“The moment I feel I don’t want to get out of bed, I will start thinking about finishing my boxing career and starting on my Hollywood movie career.”
Eddie Hearn knows how hard it can be to promote a non- English speaker in British boxing but he has seen Usyk’s five-star charisma close-up.

Hearn said: “Usyk is so fascinating, he is a star, made for movies.
“The social media numbers around him — even when he is just dancing — are mad.
“People moan about Canelo, Gennady Golovkin and Vasiliy Lomachenko not selling fights in the UK and America because they don’t speak English.

“But here you have a guy who doesn’t need to — it adds to his mystery around him.
“And he is a deep thinker. Tony Bellew liked him before their fight and Derek Chisora does too — that is so rare.”
Usyk cleaned out the 14st 4lb cruiserweight division, not with KO power but with masterful footwork, speed and precision.
Londoner Chisora — who will become just his second opponent at heavyweight level when they clash at  Wembley Arena on Saturday — is an 18st wrecking machine who has gone the distance with Tyson Fury and Vitali Klitschko and knocked out  powerhouses like David Price and Carlos Takam.
And southpaw stylist Usyk admits the extra pounds he has had to pack on for resilience and strength have chipped away at some of his best attributes
He said: “I feel more power. I have put extra weight on my body and when I train in the gym, I don’t feel as flexible or sharp but that is only because of the hard work.

“He is a really big guy and he hits hard — but I will train hard and be in my best shape because I love boxing very much.
“When it comes to sparring and boxing, me and my team will decide on my optimum weight.
“I will stay on that weight and it will be ideal for my movement because that is my main skill.”

Anthony Joshua warns Oleksandr Usyk ‘people don’t respect’ your power as Ukrainian prepares for Derek Chisora fight

ANTHONY JOSHUA has warned Oleksandr Usyk that ‘people don’t respect’ his power ahead of his fight with Derek Chisora.
The Ukrainian is heading into his second clash since stepping up to heavyweight this Saturday night.

The former undisputed cruiserweight champion is the mandatory challenger to AJ’s WBO belt and expects to receive his title shot next year.
Discussing Usyk’s in-ring tactics, Joshua told Sky Sports: “When I boxed Andy Ruiz Jr in the second fight I adapted to the Usyk style.
“Hit and don’t get hit, the sweet science of boxing. You learn that from the amateurs.
“I was amateur for two-and-a-half years so was still adapting to different styles. Usyk was amateur for a long time so he has taken the ‘hit and don’t get hit’ style into the pros.

“The good thing that helped me? Sometimes I know to sit down on my feet and hurt someone.
“You’ve got to let them know that you’re there because all that pitty-patty stuff after 12 rounds? Sometimes people don’t respect that type of power.”
Joshua puts his IBF, WBA and WBO belts on the line against Kubrat Pulev on December 12.
He then wants to face WBC king Tyson Fury in 2021 to determine the undisputed heavyweight champ.

However, Usyk’s co-promoter Alexander Krassyuk, who works alongside Eddie Hearn, insists his fighter’s opportunity will happen.
He said: “He has agreed to let AJ versus Kubrat Pulev happen, with regards that the winner fights him next. This statement is still solid.
“Our plan is: A) beat Derek Chisora, B) push AJ to comply with WBO rules or vacate the title, C) defeat AJ (or any other WBO champion or contender and become the heavyweight champion. Simple and practical.”

Deontay Wilder has ‘missed boat’ on Tyson Fury trilogy and Anthony Joshua fight and could be ‘done’, reveals Eddie Hearn

EDDIE HEARN believes Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury’s two-fight deal will see Deontay Wilder waiting over a year for a world title shot.
The Bronze Bomber’s trilogy bout against the Gypsy King has failed to materialise, with the unbeaten Brit to now focus on his December 5 homecoming.

Fury’s attention will then turn to Joshua, with the pair agreeing terms on a two-fight deal in 2021.
Joshua must first beat his IBF mandatory Kubrat Pulev with the duo to meet at the 02 Arena on December 12.
Earlier this week, Fury’s US-based promoter Bob Arum hit out at Wilder’s management team as he claimed they never read the contract sent out to them.
And with Fury and AJ scheduled to pit their wits against each other next year, Hearn has stated Wilder could be ‘done’.

He told Sky Sports: “Wilder? I don’t know any fighter that wouldn’t want the rematch. But I want to hear him. He’s gone missing.
“[Fury’s American promoter] Bob Arum says the contract has expired? What sort of contract was this?
“We’re coming off a global pandemic and the force majeure would cover them. It’s all really weird.
“Wilder has missed the boat. He won’t get a shot at the world title until 2022 onwards because we are going to have two fights [with Fury] next year if we beat Pulev.

“Maybe he is done. You wouldn’t hold it against him. But I don’t understand the situation.”
Wilder has gone quiet on social media, having not posted anything on Twitter or Instagram since August.
    BATTLE OF BRITAIN
Hearn has also revealed when the bouts between AJ and Fury will likely take place in 2021.
He said: “You break them up into probably May, June, and then November, December [for the rematch]. April, May, June, and then November, December.
“I think it’s about where and of course they’re two British heavyweight world champions, and if one of those fights at least didn’t take place in the UK it would be a shame.
“I know ultimately people think it’s my decision but it’s really not.
“We will take all the offers that will come from all around the world and present them to both teams and both fighters.
“Ultimately, normally, the biggest offer wins.”

Derek Chisora insists Oleksandr Usyk will have ref and judges on side so it’s KO or nothing

DEREK CHISORA is scared the only way he can beat Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Arena on Saturday is with a Halloween knockout.
North London heavyweight Chisora believes his Ukrainian opponent is so popular he will be fighting him, the ref and the judges.

He insisted: “I don’t think I will get the victory without a clean knockout because everyone will be on his side.
“For this fight I’m fighting a few people — Usyk, the ref and the judges. So to get a victory I have to knock him out.
“But it motivates me more, people thinking I don’t have a chance in hell.”
Chisora, 36, believes Usyk’s gap-toothed grin, slick southpaw style and hilarious social media posts have won him thousands of English fans.

The 2012 Olympic golden boy and former undisputed cruiserweight king has more than one million online followers — and Chisora reckons he will be the underdog despite being on home soil.
Chisora, who will weigh in at around 18st, said: “Usyk is a good fighter and is loved by the English fans.
“Everything about him is likeable. The way he boxes and carries himself around since he won an Olympic gold and the Muhammad Ali Trophy — there is nothing to hate about the guy.
“If I come out now and start calling him a douchebag then it makes me look like the one with anger problems and I don’t have them with him. I like him, I am a big fan of his.”

Pound-for-pound superstar Usyk, 33, arrived at the Wembley fight hotel on Monday night and settled in with a game of darts, throwing a bullseye with just his second arrow.
When asked what essentials he will be taking into the hotel, Chisora said: “I love playing old records, like Ray Charles and Motown, so I will bring my own record player in because I have to play it loud.
“I will have my Union Jack flag and probably my massage chair.”
Chisora’s manager, former two-weight world champ David Haye, has backed his man to batter the southpaw trickster.
Haye said: “It’ll be a Halloween fright night with the two going at each other.
“Is Usyk going to be mentally prepared to go to the dark and scary places that Derek is going to bring to the table? I don’t think so.”
Haye took to Twitter last week to offer £1,000 to anyone brave enough to spar Chisora — though SunSport understands only a few oddballs turned up.
