What are Nike sprint ‘super shoes’ worn by Dina Asher-Smith and why was the original design axed for Toyko Olympics?

NIKE’S have released a new sprint ‘super shoe’ after the originals were axed by the company – because they would not have got approval from World Athletics. And the company have released an adapted version of the running spikes to be worn by Dina Asher-Smith at the Toyko Olympics.

Nike’s new running spikes have been shelved ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics
The shoes are a different design to ones we have seen before on an athletics track
The controversial shoes were being branded as a Usain Bolt-busting solution from Nike – but the American company have shelved the shoes with World Athletics approval all but impossible.
Instead they have released an adapted version, which have been approved by boffins at World Athletics.
And rival companies are also coming up with footwear that has similar technology – with Adidas among the chasing pack.
Expect this to be a big talking point at the Olympics this summer.
What are the Nike Zoom Air Viperfly spikes and will they be allowed at the Tokyo Olympics?
Nike’s cutting-edge running spikes are designed specifically for 100m sprinters.
All sprinters wear footwear with small metal spikes on the bottom for better grip.
Over the last few decades, manufacturers have found ways to make the foot plate more rigid and lighter, which has been approved by athletics officials.
But the Nike shoes have a carbon fibre mechanism under the ball of the foot that acts like a springboard, generating more power in the sprinter’s stride.
Nike said: “This composition, developed alongside the Nike Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT%, was designed to provide responsiveness and energy.
“It follows deep study of the strategy and performance of the race, and focuses attention on what athletes need most in the last 20 meters of the sprint.”
Currently, we will NOT be seeing these spikes at the Tokyo Olympics, if it goes ahead in the summer of 2021.
Nike will not make these shoes available for athletes in Japan.
The shoes have to be approved by World Atheltics, which approve certain lines of footwear ahead of each world championships, with specific limits on sole thickness.
Nike told SunSport: “World Athletics changed the rules so the shoe will not be produced given Nike respects the rules.
“We have been researching, developing, building, and testing performance footwear for half a century.
“The athlete will always be our focus and we will continue to create new and better solutions for their needs.”
The black and green spikes are being described as the fastest of all time
What shoes did Usain Bolt run his 100m and 200m world records in?
Retired Jamaican track icon Bolt ran 9.58sec in the 100m in 2009 at the World Championships in Berlin.

He then went on and broke his own 200m world record, setting an all-time fastest of 19.19sec in the half lap sprint.
Bolt wore Puma spikes his whole career and was endorsed by the German company since his earliest days as a promising young teenager.

What happens if Chelsea finish fifth in Premier League and win the Champions League?

CHELSEA and Manchester City will meet in Istanbul on May 29 in the third all-English Champions League Final. And the Blues are still in a top four battle with Leicester and Liverpool heading into the final matches of the Premier League season.

But what does it all mean for European qualification for next season? SunSport explains:
How many Champions League and Europa League places do the Premier League get?
England has seven places, with the top four in the Prem qualifying for the Champions League.
Fifth in the table and the FA Cup winners go into the Europa League. And from this season onwards, the Carabao Cup winners go into the new Europa Conference League.
But Manchester City won the Carabao Cup. So now what happens?
That means the team finishing sixth take the Conference League spot, with a place in the final play-off round at the end of August.
Leicester and Chelsea played in the FA Cup final – does that impact things?
Assuming both of them finish in the top six – likely but not yet confirmed – it means sixth takes a Europa League place and SEVENTH in the table means the Conference League.
    But could things change again?
Yes – but that depends on the outcomes of the two European competitions.
Under Uefa rules, the Champions League and Europa League winners automatically qualify for the Champions League.
But Uefa also caps at a maximum of five the number of teams from ANY country in the Champions League and a total of seven teams in all competitions.

    Go on…what are you saying?
Well, if Chelsea win the Champions League and finish fourth, nothing happens. But if they finish fifth, they would join the top four in next season’s competition.
The Premier League said: “Should a Premier League club win the UEFA Champions League they will automatically qualify for the group stage of next season’s competition regardless of their league finishing position.
“A maximum of five Premier League teams are eligible for UEFA Champions League qualification.”
Teams in sixth and seventh would then BOTH be in the Europa League.

    Why is it so complicated?
Chelsea finishing in the top four and Manchester United winning the Europa League would make it easier.
Then fifth and sixth are in the Europa and seventh in the Conference. More

What is the Europa Conference League?
The Europa Conference League is Uefa’s new third tier European competition.
The idea is to give more clubs from more countries the chance to play European football.
Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: “The new UEFA club competition makes UEFA’s club competitions more inclusive than ever before.
“There will be more matches for more clubs, with more associations represented in the group stages.”
Like the Champions League and Europa League, the competition will consist of a group and knockout stage.

Which English teams qualify for the Europa Conference League?
England has been granted one Europa Conference League place.
Originally, the slot was to be allocated to the side winning the Carabao Cup – provided they finished outside of the Premier League top-six.
But after Manchester City won the trophy, the Conference League spot will instead go to the team that finishes seventh in the Premier League.
All other Premier League European spots are unchanged, with the top 4 entering the Champions League and fifth and sixth being granted Europa League spots.

Which other teams qualify for the Europa Conference League?
The 2021-22 European season will involve a slimmed down Europa League with more teams entering the Conference League.
Just 57 teams will compete in the Europa League compared to 184 in the Europa Conference League.
While the champions of every country will get the chance to qualify for the Champions League, all other teams from countries ranked below 15th in the Uefa Coefficients will enter the Europa Conference League rather than the Europa League.
Teams eliminated from the Champions League preliminary round and first qualifying rounds will also go to the Conference League, as well as those eliminated from the Europa League third qualifying round, play-off round and third place finishers in the group stage.

How will the Europa League change?
The Europa League group stage will be reduced to 32 teams from the current 48.
Group winners will now advance to the last 16 of the tournament while runners-up will have to play a preliminary knockout stage against the third placed Champions League teams.
Does the winner of the Europa Conference League qualify for any other tournaments?
The Europa Conference League winner will qualify for the following season’s Europa League. More
