Charlie Adam RETIRES from football with emotional Instagram post showing rarely seen footage of him signing for Rangers


CHARLIE ADAM has announced his retirement as a football player.

The former Rangers, Liverpool and Scotland man announced that his playing days were over with an emotional post on Instagram.

It came complete with a video of him signing as a teenager for the Ibrox men, from BBC Scotland show Blue Heaven.

He is shown signing a three-year-deal complete with him being moved into digs in Glasgow from Dundee.

There is also the promise from Dutch academy boss Jan Derks of £1000 for every first team match he played.

Adam went on to make more than 50 appearances for the Ibrox men, before moving south to Blackpool and kick-starting his career south of the border.

He also graced Stoke City for a seven-year stint – before calling time on his career after a period at his hometown team Dundee.

He is embarking on a coaching career, having been spotted during the summer with West Ham’s entourage on a tour to St Andrews.

He wrote: “I feel now is the right time to announce my retirement as a player.

“I’ve been lucky enough to play for some of the biggest clubs in the world.

“From Champions League nights at Ibrox for Rangers, winning promotion into the Premier League as Blackpool captain, pulling on the famous Liverpool shirt and scoring in front of The Kop, eight incredible seasons at Stoke City to guiding my boyhood club to promotion and playing 26 times for Scotland – It’s not been a bad ride.

“A huge thank you goes to Glasgow Rangers, Ross County,St Mirren, Blackpool, Liverpool, Stoke City, Reading and Dundee’s supporters – hopefully I’ve gave you all some memorable moments along the way.

“For now it’s time for me to move into coaching, something I feel incredibly passionate about and have been enjoying for the last few months.
