Tottenham flop Gedson Fernandes wanted by Marseille in summer transfer from Benfica to replace Olivier Ntcham

TOTTENHAM flop Gedson Fernandes has reportedly been chosen by Marseille as a replacement for Oliver Ntcham.

Celtic star Ntcham has been on loan at the French side since January but is set to return to Scotland this summer after a controversial stint which saw ex-boss Andre Villas Boas reveal he didn’t want the player.

And Fotomac reports Benfica’s Fernandes, currently on loan at Galatasary, is the target identified to replace him in Jorge Sampaoli’s squad.

The storm surrounding Ntcham’s arrival saw ex-Spurs and Chelsea manager Villas-Boas resign in a press conference before he was then sacked by the club following the bust-up with the board who sanctioned the move without his blessing.

But Ntcham has fared little better under former Argentina boss Sampaoli, making just one appearance.

French reports suggest the ace will head back to the Hoops when his temporary move comes to an end at the close of the season.

And the report states Marseille are ‘unhappy’ with him and are already lining up Fernandes as a replacement.

Initial meetings are understood to have taken place with parent club Benfica who are thought to be open to selling the midfielder.

Fernandes has scored one goal in nine games in all competitions for the Turkish giants since arriving at the end of the January transfer window.

And it is not though to have been enough to convince Galatasaray it is worth signing him on a more permanent basis.

Spurs cancelled Fernandes’ 18-month loan deal early at the beginning of the year after he failed to live up to the hype with no goal involvements in 14 appearances.

Tottenham had an option to buy the star last summer for £42million but turned down the move with Fernandes never starting a Premier League game during his time in North London.

Benfica immediately shipped him out on loan again to Turkey but after contracting Covid-19, Fernandes had to fly out in an ambulance jet to get the deal done in time.
