Jesse Lingard reveals how he wound up Pedro Neto after inspiring West Ham victory over Wolves

JESSE LINGARD has revealed how West Ham’s game management at the end of their clash against Wolves led to his confrontation with Pedro Neto.

The pair had to be pulled apart by their team-mates following the full-time whistle as the Hammers edged out the Midlands outfit to win 3-2 at Molineux.

Immediately after Michael Oliver signalled the end of play, Portuguese forward Neto walked over to Lingard before squaring up to him.

Players then darted over to separate the duo, with Lingard later declaring that the 21-year-old wasn’t impressed when the visitors kept the ball in the corner late on.

The 28-year-old – on loan from Manchester United – told Sky Sports: “He said ‘why do you play like that?’

“I don’t know what he meant by that.

“Of course I won the game, I think he meant when we kept it in the corner.

“But that’s game management and it’s things like that that we have to learn and keep picking up on.”

Lingard yet again put in a starring performance for West Ham as he chipped in with another goal and an assist.

He broke the deadlock in the sixth minute with a true goal of the season contender as he dribbled from his own half to fire beyond Rui Patricio.

That brought his tally to six goals and three assists since linking up with David Moyes’ side.

And Lingard was delighted after the club moved back inside the top four after getting back to winning ways following the 3-3 draw against Arsenal.

He said: “It was a tough game. We had to work hard. We kept at it. I thought it would be another Arsenal, conceding just before half-time.

“But the lads kept their focus. We come out second half a bit better. It was about managing the game.”

Before adding: “We have tough fixtures but the lads are ready.”
