Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher’s five best Premier League transfers of all-time split fans with no Cristiano Ronaldo

GARY NEVILLE and Jamie Carragher have revealed their top five Premier League transfers of all-time – and have NOT included Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Sky pundits collated their best ever signings but did not include the Portuguese megastar, despite him going on to be one of the best players of all time.

Manchester United signed Ronaldo, 36, from Sporting Lisbon for just £17million in August 2003 and ended up selling him to Real Madrid for £85m six years later.

Ronnie bagged 118 goals and 69 assists in 292 United appearances and left as officially the best player in the world alongside Lionel Messi.

He went on to cement his place as one of the greatest to ever play the game at the Bernabeu with 450 goals and 132 assists from 438 games.

And he is still going at Juventus with 88 goals and 21 assists from his 115 games in black and white so far.

But despite his impact at United which saw him win three Prem titles and one Champions League, the Sky pundits did not have him on their list.

Blackburn signing Alan Shearer from Southampton for £3.6m in 1992 was the earliest big buy highlighted.

The goalscoring machine went on to become the Prem’s highest ever goalscorer with 260 strikes after bagging 34 in the 1994-95 season as Rovers won the Prem.

Eric Cantona from Leeds to Man Utd for £1.2m in 1992 came after Shearer in date order.

The Frenchman is a legend at United and helped the club win four titles – 1993, 94, 96 and 97.

Arsenal’s greatest ever player Thierry Henry arrived at the Gunners from Juventus for £10.5m in 1999 and led the club to eternal glory in the Invincibles season.

While Vincent Kompany and Jamie Vardy followed after him to make up the top five.

Kompany arrived from Hamburg for £6.7m in 2008 and Vardy was signed for just £1m from Fleetwood Town in 2012 after a romantic rise from non-league football.

Carragher was particularly passionate about Vardy’s inclusion given the romance of his story and how integral he was in leading the Foxes to their historic Premier League title.

And the ex-Liverpool man said Vardy was the best signing of all while Neville went for his former team-mate Cantona.

It appeared the pair placed high value on cheap price tags and although Ronnie went on to achieve phenomenal things, he was still fairly expensive at the time for a teenager at nearly £20m.

Fans online were split after the former Prem stars revealed their picks.

Ashley wrote: “Frank Lampard [to Chelsea]… £14m, 3x Prem, Champs League, Europa League, 4x FA cups, 2x League Cups.

“Most goals from a midfielder, 20+ goals for five seasons in a row… the list is endless.”

Zizou added: “Sol Campbell surely got to be in… free transfer for a world class defender.”

And Sonny tweeted: “Thinking [Gianfranco] Zola too, completely changed the mentality at the Bridge.”
