Mario Gotze could join Bayern Munich from Dortmund for second time in career in shock transfer after talks with Flick

BAYERN MUNICH are reportedly in talks over a sensational move for Mario Gotze.

But he could get another reprieve with a move back to Munich, where he played between 2013 and 2016.

According to Bild, the 28-year-old has already held talks with Bayern boss Hansi Flick over a free transfer.

The Champions League winners could be forgiven for completely avoiding the transfer market after getting their season underway with an 8-0 thrashing of Schalke on Friday.

But Flick is seeking reinforcements after several players left the club in the off-season, the 55-year-old admitting he regrets the loss of stars with “tremendous quality”.

Thiago Alcantara signed for Liverpool, Javi Martinez is expected to leave for Athletic Club, and the loans of Alvaro Odriozola, Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho ended.

That could mean a shock return for Gotze, who reportedly left Borussia bosses upset with his social media antics alongside wife Ann-Kathrin.

Although, it is said that Bayern chiefs Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Hasan Salihamidzic are not keen on the idea of signing the attacking midfielder.

Gotze has claimed that he still wants to win the Champions League despite his poor form in recent years.

I absolutely want to win the Champions League. I don’t want to end my career without winning that title at least once.

He told Kicker: “In the past, even before the coronavirus outbreak, it was often portrayed as if my central concern was money.

“That was not and is not the case. The financial aspect plays an ancillary role for me.

“The truly important factors for me are the athletic ones.

“I absolutely want to win the Champions League. That drives me every day. I don’t want to end my career without having won that title at least once.”

Inter Miami, Roma, Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen have all been linked to the player, with the Bundesliga side and former Borussia coach Peter Bosz an appealing option.

Gotze told Bild last week: “I had a very good phase under Peter Bosz, and his philosophy suits me perfectly.”

Bayer’s Bosz replied to the rumours, saying: “Yes, I can imagine working with him again, because I really enjoy working with good players – and Mario is absolutely a good player.

“Maybe it will happen in the future.

But he added: “It doesn’t make sense to speculate about it, because we’re currently looking for other positions.”
