Jurgen Klopp could turn Kai Havertz into ‘world-class player’, claims Leverkusen legend after two-goal display

His comments came after the German midfielder put in a man-of-the-match performance with two goals in a 4-1 win over Werder Bremen,

Havertz scored either side of an effort by Theodor Gebre Selassie, with further goals from Mitchell Weiser and Kerem Demirbay sealing the win for the visitors.

The 20-year-old Germany international is already valued at £100million by Leverkusen.

And another barnstorming performance is sure to intensify interest from across Europe.

Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been linked with a bid.

And Bayern Munich have also been tipped to splash the cash as they look to continue their habit of poaching the Bundesliga’s best and brightest.

However, Leverkusen hero Nowotny believes Havertz would thrive under the guidance of Klopp at Liverpool, claiming his compatriot would turn the youngster into one of the world’s best.

He told Goal and Spox: “Havertz is on the way to becoming a world-class player. He has huge potential.

“Another year in Leverkusen would certainly not hurt him.

“For his personal development as a player and as a person it would be good for him to be in an environment in which he feels comfortable.

“That’s the case in Leverkusen. Otherwise he would not have already spent ten years at the club.

“To fulfil his potential, the next step is very, very important. He has to ask himself questions.

“Are there clubs where he can develop if there is a possible change?

“Or are there only clubs where he has to arrive and function as a finished player?

“On the one hand, you need coaches like Klopp, Guardiola or Mourinho, who can take him further.

“On the other had, such a coach also hats work for a club where he is allowed to develop.

“He could develop at Bayern Munich, but he would have to win his chance to play first and foremost.

“That works better for some clubs that for others. For a young player, Borussia Dortmund may be better than Bayern Munich in terms of club and environment.”
