Jamie Carragher slams Arsenal as ‘tactically a shambles’ after abject defeat against Spurs in derby

ARSENAL are ‘a shambles’, according to Sky Sports pundit and former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher.

The Gunners were as meek as you like as they fell to a 2-0 North London derby defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.

After the game the future of boss Mikel Arteta was questioned in some quarters, as well as the desire of the players.

Now Carragher, speaking on Monday Night Football, was damning in his assessment of Arsenal.

He said: “Arsenal did not play well. They were awful, defensively and on the ball, from minute one.

“This idea that because you’ve had possession, you’ve played well – I’m flabbergasted.

“They never had one chance in the game when they ‘should have scored’.

“I thought tactially Arsenal were a shambles.”

Carragher went on to state that the players and boss Arteta should have known how Jose Mourinho would approach the game.

Once in the lead, Spurs were resolute defensively and happy to Arsenal dominate possession as they toiled for an equaliser.

The game was then over as Harry Kane added to Son Heung-Min’s opener.

Carragher added: “It was almost as if this Arsenal team and Mikel Arteta had been transported into this game from the moon and they didn’t know who Mourinho was.

“I was flabbergasted with what I watched and some of the things I head after the game, as they were so poor.”

SunSport reported how leading bookmaker Coral have slashed the odds on Arteta leaving before the final game of the 2020-21 campaign.

The Spanish tactician was previously 4/1 to be given the boot before May’s final round of fixtures.

But another miserable weekend has seen his odds shorten to 6/4.

The result left Arteta’s side slumped in 15th position – six points above bottom club Fulham.

They’ve also lost SIX of their opening 11 top-flight fixtures and have the fourth-lowest goal tally in the division.
