Gary Neville has three reasons why Chelsea are more likely to win Premier League title than bitter rivals Tottenham

GARY NEVILLE says Chelsea are more likely to win the Premier League title this season than their bitter rivals Tottenham.

The ex-Manchester United and England star outlined three reasons for backing the Blues, citing their experience, their more impressive history and the side’s ability to do the ‘ugly’ things needed to win the top trophies.

Heading into their weekend fixtures, Tottenham top the table but their London rivals – who they drew 0-0 with last month – are just two points behind.

But with both in contention, Neville has explained why he favours Frank Lampard’s side.

He told Sky Sports: “I think Chelsea have got more of a chance to win the league than Spurs because they have got N’Golo Kante, Thiago Silva, and players who could navigate them to it.

“The club always wins trophies under Roman Abramovich, there is something there.

“They have got good, talented players and they also do the ugly side of the game as well, so they are a real threat.”

While Neville fancies Chelsea over Tottenham, he isn’t ruling out the possibility of Jose Mourinho leading the North Londoner’s to their first title triumph since 1961.

On Spurs, he said: “We have seen them against United, City, Chelsea and Arsenal and they have picked up 10 points out of 12. He has some really top players and he now feels he can compete with Pep and Klopp.

“I think he has got a chance as there is no doubt City and Liverpool are not where they were.”

Chelsea face a tricky trip to Everton this weekend while Tottenham are away at Crystal Palace.

Despite this season looking set to be much closer than the last when Liverpool won by a huge 18 points, Neville still sees the Merseysiders as the most likely eventual winners.

He said: “I’ve said before that I think Liverpool win this league at a canter if Virgil van Dijk was fit, no one can get near them.

“I still think they win this league, but there are just some little things that are going against them that have not gone against them in the last couple of years.”
