Gilmour was forcing his way into Frank Lampard’s first team plans when he required surgery after suffering a cruciate injury back in July.

Chelsea’s summer transfer splurge means places in the first-team could be hard to come by.

And an unnamed football agent was quoted telling The Athletic that Gilmour should leave on loan to play regular football.

He said: “Younger lads that didn’t go on loan will force a move.

“The Carabao Cup is out of the window for the next two months as the rounds have already been played.

“Fikayo Tomori and Billy Gilmour should go in January.”

Lampard handed the former academy midfielder his debut against Sheffield United in August 2018 and the skilful rookie became a big hit.

Gilmour then came of age in Chelsea’s 2-0 FA Cup victory over Liverpool in March, earning the man of the match award.

The same agent also believes Manchester United youngster Brandon Williams will also look to move.

The deadline day arrival of Alex Telles means Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now has three left-backs in his squad.

The mystery middleman added: “Brandon Williams doesn’t want to be No3 left-back at United.

“He would be absolutely mental not go somewhere like Leeds or Southampton. Or a top-half Championship club.”
