Birmingham boss Pep Clotet leaves immediately after Swansea defeat

BIRMINGHAM CITY boss Pep Clotet has stepped down after the defeat to Swansea City.

The 3-1 loss on Wednesday night was the club’s tenth defeat in a row.

A club statement read: “It was mutually agreed that he should relinquish the role immediately.

“The board would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Pep for his efforts during the past two years.

“We will be making no further comment at this time.”

Clotet, 43, had already agreed to leave St Andrews at the end of the season, but with four games still to play the Spaniard has fallen on his sword early.

Clotet spoke to TV cameras after the game but did not appear for his press conference with newspapers.

Garry Monk’s former assistant at the club, Clotet took over last June following Monk’s sacking.

He was initally appointed as caretaker before getting the full-time gig in December.

But Birmingham have struggled since football returned from coronavirus lockdown, with Blues failing to win any of their five games and picking up just two points.

Birmingham are four points and four places above the relegation zone.
