UFC news: Mayweather and White ‘still working on’ comeback but McGregor rematch ruled out because ‘he’s retired’

FLOYD MAYWEATHER is still “working on” a comeback with UFC president Dana White – but a Conor Mcgregor rematch has been ruled out.

Mayweather last year announced he was “coming out of retirement in 2020” to work on a “spectacular event” with White.

But he was this year hit with double tragedy after the death of former partner and mother to three of his kids Josie Harris, which came two weeks before his uncle and ex-trainer Roger passed.

Mayweather took time off his promotional duties, but throughout the coronavirus pandemic continued to train in his Las Vegas gym.

And according to White, the 43-year-old still plans to make a comeback.

He told TMZ Sports: “Floyd and I still have dialogue and go back and forth.

“We’re still interested on both sides. Very possible.”

SunSport revealed Mayweather was in talks to return to Japan, the scene where he made £7million after beating featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018.

The American legend confirmed negotiations were in place for another exhibition bout in Tokyo, as he boasted at being able to bank £75m.

Mayweather last fought as a professional in 2017 after he beat former UFC champion McGregor in ten rounds, which White helped promote.

But the UFC boss ruled out a second fight between the pair, insisting The Notorious, 32, is still retired.

He said: “No no no. I know he would rematch Conor McGregor but I don’t know if you heard about this but Conor McGregor’s retired.

“When I’m doing things right now and running business, I don’t even think about Conor. Conor is retired.

“As of right here now today, Conor is retired until Conor tells me differently, I’m not trying to make any fights for Conor.”
