Chelsea and Man Utd get massive Saul Niguez transfer boost as Atletico Madrid cut asking price down by £40m to £85m

CHELSEA and Manchester United have received a huge transfer boost with the news that Atletico Madrid have knocked £40m off the price of Saul Niguez.

The midfielder has been at the Spanish club since the age of 14, but now there is reportedly strong interest from the Premier League.

And both Chelsea and Man United will feel Saul is an achievable signing now that The Metro have reported that his price tag has dropped from £125m down to £85m.

The deep-lying playmaker has played a total 249 games for Atletico, scoring 34 goals.

He was also called up to the Spain squad for the 2018 World Cup, but did not feature as his side crashed out in the last 16 to hosts Russia.

He has caught the eye of some of England’s biggest clubs and could well be moved on so Diego Simeone can free up funds to look for a striker to replace Antoine Griezmann.

As well as making business sense for Atletico, United’s Paul Pogba has been touted for a move away from Old Trafford and so Saul would be a suitable fit to fill his shoes.

With that being said, Fred and Scott McTominay are beginning to show signs of being able to dictate the play in the midfield, meaning United do not necessarily need to replace Pogba, who has been out for more than two months.

Therefore, Saul may look at Chelsea as a better fit given the free-flowing, attacking football being played under Frank Lampard.

Chelsea are keen to do business after their transfer ban was reduced, meaning they can sign players in the mid-season window.

It may be the case that Atletico decide not to sell Niguez if Thomas Lemar leaves in January, so that is a factor United and Chelsea will also have to consider.

Saul is likely to feature in Atletico’s game against Osasuna in La Liga tonight at 8pm.
