The Toffees are hovering above the relegation zone after winning just five times in 17 attempts.

It is understood that Ancelotti will be officially unveiled on Thursday this week.

He is set to take charge of Everton for the first time when they face Arsenal on Saturday at Goodison Park.

His son Davide Ancelotti will be his assistant alongside Duncan Ferguson, according to Sky Sports.

Davide, 30, worked as an assistant manager at Bayern Munich and Napoli after working as a fitness coach with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti reached an agreement with the Toffees on Monday night after the club confirmed they had held meetings with a number of candidates.

He will pocket a basic salary £11.5million-per-year in Merseyside, with a bonus of £2.5m if he keeps the Toffees in the Premier League.

Interim manager Ferguson ruled himself out of the running to replace Marco Silva on a permanent basis.

Ancelotti emerged as the best option after he was sacked by Napoli following a row with president Aurelio Di Laurentiis.

The former Juventus boss remains under contract with the Serie A side until June 2021.

But he could forgo the money he is owed by Napoli in order to speed up his appointment with Everton.

Ancelotti was linked to Arsenal, but sources close to him revealed he had been left feeling as though Everton wanted him as their first choice and the Gunners didn’t.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri sees three-time Champions League winner Ancelotti as a big name to underline his ambitions.

The 60-year-old, who was in London on Tuesday morning, told Moshiri he is only interested in a long-term deal with the club.

He has also sought assurances that there will be money to spend to rebuild the squad in the summer.

Ancelotti is keen to return to the Premier League, having won the Premier League and FA Cup double with Chelsea in 2010 before being ruthlessly sacked 12 months later.
