To make matters worse for the Portuguese icon, his rival in the GOAT debate – Lionel Messi – was the Brazilian’s No1 star.

Ronaldo Nazario told AS: “Messi, of course, he is number one, we will wait 20 or 30 years to see something similar to his talent.”

The legendary striker then name-checked Liverpool’s Mo Salah, Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard and Paris Saint-Germain pair Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

R9 is now the president and owner of Spanish side Real Valladolid and had his say on the current crop of striking superstars.

He added: “I also like Salah, Hazard, Neymar, I love to watch him play, of course Mbappe…”

Many fans have drawn comparisons between French World Cup winner Mbappe and Ronaldo.

The 43-year-old Brazilian said: “Lots of people say he is similar to me. He has so much pace, he finishes well, moves well, shoots brilliantly with both feet, he has an incredible stride.

“We have similarities, but I never like comparisons, especially between players of different generations, because the situations are different.”

It’s the latest blow to Cristiano Ronaldo in the long-running debate about whether he or Messi is football’s best player.

Former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell not only backed Messi but rated Neymar ahead of CR7.

Ex-England striker Gary Lineker rubbed salt into the wounds by suggesting the toss up between the two greats is “not even close” and Messi is the far superior player.

But it is not all doom and gloom for the Portuguese hero as Forbes revealed he pockets more cash than rival Messi.
